Re: Bay or Brown?
Thanks for all the opinions! I was leaning towards brown after reading this website: http://colorgenetics.info/equine/pictorial-guide-horse-colors-part-1-chestnut-bay-brown-and-black Their description of brown fits in terms of his legs being black above the knee/hock, his light brown/fawn muzzle and...

Good read on history of [Grand Prix] freestyle
I came across this article on the history/development of the Freestyle. Lots of thoughtful and interesting comments, photos, and links to videos, from old (Klimke and Biotop 1995) to new (Dujardin and Valegro 2012) and many in-between. I thought some of you fellow DDBBers might enjoy the read: http:...

Re: What is your home barn routine?
We are (slowly) setting up at our property. Our concept is to have a central 'hub', close to our house and tack room area (no barn, and no under cover area for the horses, just not in the budget at least for now). This is what we call our 'night paddock' which is a hard-stand area about 40m x 40m, w...

Gosh, scary story Silk, you have just made me feel 100% better about the hassles we are having installing a fire sprinkler system in our new (being constructed) house! It is going to be worth the cost and effort, because sure as shit the fire service won't get up here in time if there was ever a fire.

It is definitely meant to be steps not strides, '3 to 5 walk steps'. I read the test-book glossary of step vs stride and couldn't work out what 'step' meant in terms of walk, but it seems like maybe it is as Chisamba describes. I felt when I rode it that it was 4 steps (albeit somewhat rushed as you...

Agree with the above - it also helped for us to trot two together and get them into a bit of a 'race'. The horse who likes to be in the lead quickly learned 'big trot' to get to the front. And once he realised he could do it, and we wanted it, we could get it in the arena as well.
