Re: More gift advice
Gift card is a great idea. That covers everything. I stalked him on FB (not his FB friend but he seems to have no privacy protections), and other than gospel music, which he sings at church and with a group, I turned up nothing! We've all tried to get to know him but he's really cagey. I might get h...

I don't like giving food. No one needs that crap and since I don't buy it for myself, I prefer not buying it for others, especially my staff. Sorry--should have mentioned that food was out. I don't know if he drinks or not.

More gift advice
The co-worker I drew for Secret Santa is fairly new, tends not to be talkative so no one knows much about him, young (late 20s), and male. I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what to get him!! Everyone else is easy--tree ornaments, mugs, cute stuff, whatever. I am at a total loss. $15 is the limit. Suggestion...

Re: New refrigerator - Stainless or White?
I just have white. Stainless always looks grungy to me. But then, for me a kitchen is a place to prepare my simple meals, and it doesn't need to look fancy.

Re: Emily Post wedding question
Given your feelings about your step-brother, perhaps the best gift you can give to them and you is to not attend? Make a plausible excuse if asked and spend far less than you would on attending on a gift. Win all around. Not sure how I could spend less than I would if attending, as the wedding is 3...

I am more curious about why you are worrying about it so in advance. obviously it is something that is causing a bit of stress in your life. Because our reaction to others is farm more about our relationship with ourselves than them, perhaps you have some internal thinking and resolving to do that ...

Until you've gone on a date with someone you met on line who told you, when you met in person, that he was abducted by aliens a few times, you haven't really done the whole on like dating thing. That's a good one. My personal fave was the guy who I met with mostly because he said he'd read my favor...

Re: Holiday Euro Style
I've had the opposite experience. My horse gets 3 weeks or so off in the summer (my 10 day vac and the time leading up to it, as going out of town takes a lot of prep on my part), and invariably 3-4 weeks in the winter (in Jan-Feb we can count on a really bad period of cold and/ or freezing rain, an...

Well, they haven't done anything tacky yet. I just don't know what to expect, or what I can get away with. I'll know more when the invites come out. Since we're not close, or in contact other than Facebook, I have no way of getting advance info.

I also admit to hoping that, when my GMO announces the schedule, there will be a recognized show on that date. I can only go to local shows and won't show in the summer, given our heat and humidity, so I have very limited options. If the first show is on that date I will consider that a good reason ...

I guess I'll chill until I see the invite. I don't care enough about him to take time making something "thoughtful," honestly. Our "blended family" took the metaphor waaaay too seriously--by the time I escaped to college I felt as if I'd been in a blender on "whip" for ...

Re: Air Panel Saddles and Interchangeable Gullets
It depends on the horse. My mare loves CAIR, and I'm thrilled that she likes the $900 saddle better than the $4K saddle. :-) Some horses don't like it, apparently, but I am convinced that there is a snob factor going on as well. I.e., the dressage world is now so elitist that everyone has been brain...

My step brother is getting married in the Spring. This is his second marriage, and hers as well. I am not close to him and honestly have better things to do on a Saturday in April, but since it's taking place here (even though they live in CA), I'm pretty sure I can't get away with skipping it (or r...

At this point, other than my nieces, I get everyone books. I usually get something that benefits a charity I support, as well (Benefits wine, etc.). The nieces get money, along with a few things I know they want, because they're teenagers so money is most useful. I spend most of my gift money on the...

You do not HAVE to wear a body protector vest with an air vest. They are not intended to be worn with them, but alone. Wearing both is an eventing rule (you can wear either the body protector alone OR both vests, but not only the air vest), but in the real world you can do what you like. Obviously w...

What I like is the customization and the fact that I can buy the cavesson with no flash attachment, which seems impossible these days. I hate paying good money for a bridle, and then have to cut off the flash loop.

It's also really important to make sure that older horses are seen by a dentist (a real dentist, not just a vet who floats teeth) every 6 months.

Beet pulp is really just the junk that is unwanted after the sugar is taken out of beets. I don't feed it. Best thing, IMO, is soaked timothy pellets (or alfalfa, but I don't feed that at all) with a vit/min supplement (I feed Horsetech's Grass plus) and ground flax. I get stabilized ground flax at ...

Gym 3x a week (generally the elliptical for 45 min, a little running, and then work on the various weight machines). Pilates (reformer) once a week. I ride 3-4 times a week. I trim 10-30 horses (feet) a week. I do farm work. And I eat a very low fat vegan, whole foods diet.

Many online BBs restrict ones's access to edit or delete material. They only allow you to edit your posts for a limited time after posting (30-60 min usually). So you can't delete them, ever. Just sayin'.

Because one expensive and time-consuming hobby just wasn't enough, I have taken up sea kayaking. In summer '14 I went on a 5-day kayak trip in the San Juan Islands and fell head over heels in love with the sport. I now have my own boat, which I paddle on local Tennessee lakes and rivers, and make th...

Re: Cross Tying
I second Blocker tie rings. I use them everywhere--cross ties, trailer, and I have one in my grooming box. I don't tie without it. Basically, they keep the horse from feeling trapped (the basic problem with tying a prey animal) by giving him a little bit of rope. He learns that he is not trapped and...
