Re: Getting more 'jump' in the canter?
My instructor uses the 'bounce the trampoline" type thing to try and get me using my seat more. We are getting a few strides and then lose it. I like the bubble analogy. I've learned we are a bit crooked, so currently addressing that. Funny how long you can go before you realise this (not happy...

Re: Running into the canter....
How long has he been cantering under saddle? My 2 horses did it for a little while when I first started them, and it just goes away after a little while. I found if you start fiddling too much, taking your aid away but not getting a result, they don't learn (or they learn that if they just run faste...

I've entered a dressage comp for my young horse this weekend. I must have got a rush of blood for it when a group of friends decided to go ( for 3 of them, it's their first ever comp!)
It's a bit too soon to expect more than just hoping we stay in the arena, but I know I want 60% +. Arghhh!

You do feel it. My horse was a 14.3hh fat half Friesian and I could notice it. And be prepared that it can take a little while for them to give it to you, you can't do one lap around the arena and have it work (or you might if you are lucky!!) you kinda have to hang on and go for it until you get it...

Re: Getting more 'jump' in the canter?
Kande, we are getting more lift in our med trot now, but canter seems to be flatter. Can't hurt to keep working on it though :) Bats, I think the idea for 1/4s in is to help with getting him to step under and collect more? Haven't tried that trans, but I will, thanks! I've only been doing walk/trot ...

When I start getting bad tempered because I'm hot and sweaty!! :D That can mean anything over 20 lol. We've got 35 - 40 this week too. I tend to not ride over about 32 degrees, especially as I'm west facing on a hill, so I cook until sunset. Yesterday I rode out at about 8pm and it was pleasant in t...

Hi Greenholme Shandy! You are a very cute pony :) I don't like giving advice because I'm not a trainer/instructor and I only ride low level dressage. I just want you to know that. But if it was me, I'd be doing lots more circles now, smaller ones, figure 8s, serpentine type movements and getting tha...

Getting more 'jump' in the canter?
I struggle with this in the collected canter, I have lessons and my instructor tries to get me to encourage more jump with my seat and a bit of a tap with the whip if need be on the up part. We do small circles, quarters in on the circle and forward and back within the canter, but has anyone else be...

I had a horse like this, and I tried all the collection stuff into some lengthened strides etc but it didn't really make a difference. In the end what worked was fanging around in a paddock as fast as she'd go in trot, not allowing her to canter. It didn't take too long until she started getting lon...

Kelo, that is very cool! I like how this has encompassed not just riding, but training my horses to be good to do everything with. Non-dressage trainers. Thoughts?
I've been following a horse trainer that does reining/western riding, not dressage and have been very surprised at how much it is helping me and my horses. Re: Air Panel Saddles and Interchangeable Gullets
I did a few days with a saddle fitter - fitting/adjusting etc. When I saw a Cair panel I was surprised! Wasn't what I thought.
If it fits the horse then that's great, but it is so much harder to adjust a cair saddle. I will always stick to flocking now, mostly for that reason.
