Re: Let the horse hair fly! March and April Goals and Progress

I didn't have any goals and still don't! The time has gone fast but it's been so strange. It's been raining all day and I have the fire on, so the drought and fires seem so long ago. It's nice to have green stuff back, even if a lot of it is weeds. Just chipping away at little things with my horses,...

Re: Understanding the horse(s) you have, and their associated training challenges

I will start off by sharing that given what I know now, I would not have taught Emi to stop dropping behind contact by riding her above the bit so much. I would have worked her rounder/deeper in a less desirable frame just to teach her about connection. This is really interesting, as my big horse a...

We haven't had a lot of hospital cases yet either, and I'm definitely still riding (horses are at home) but just staying in the arena. We can ride out and about but I'm trying to reduce risk of potential injury too.

Australia is just starting to do some lockdown measures, and shutting down non-essential places. We still don't have much community based transmission - none where I am yet. I"m on days off from work, my horses are at home so that is good. I'm bored already! But it could be worse. Ive had a flu...

Pretty flowers everyone :)
Sad/nice story with the daffodils, Koolkat.

Our season has been strange due to the drought and then a bit of rain at the end of summer, this crepe myrtle has just managed to get it's flowering in. Nice to get some green grass after so long with none.

That's pretty interesting Chisamba. I know I've read some people like Manolo Mendez has said the flash/drop can help steady the bit and be more comfortable for some horses. I'm really starting to appreciate just how different each horse (and rider) is. I rode Norsey bitless yesterday, he's always so...

I just use a loose cavesson too thesedays. If I'm not competing then sometimes take them off (less fuss on their faces). If they are opening their mouths then I figure I'm using my hands too hard.

I actually found no difference with Norsey. He very light in the contact and get's closed in his gullet or then sticks his nose right out. The baucher didn't make any difference to his normal snaffle. See if you can borrow one before buying one. I found him happiest in a mullen mouth and now he's in...
