Re: Can we get a jump on April/May training goals thread?

He's not body sore anywhere but I think a little mind-sore about the idea of greater collection. I asked for too much too soon. As my trainer said, this is 2nd level, not FEI... truth.... !!!!!!!! Its so hard to know (for me) how much is enough, too much, just right.... oh well, I'm doing the...

Re: Can we talk?

My thinking is that, with any subject, if you are of a completely different opinion it serves no purpose to post on that topic. I'm mad at myself for not realizing that a decade or more ago. truth! COTH is getting way way to political for me, I can usually tell subjects, but at times the headings a...

Re: Can we talk?

People just form cliques naturally, unfortunately. It took me awhile to catch on, but the connections are often made behind the scenes, and the result is that those alliances often make just about everyone in the conversation appear to be completely mad--until one realizes that almost no one is pos...

I've been more active on the FB dressage groups, and COTH has off topic 24/7 now. quite a few regulars there.

I have a ton of UDBB as FB friends, too.

My horse didn't really like longing for awhile, he liked the "hug" of the leading and groundwork where I stood closer by him. More interaction and security.

Re: Can we get a jump on April/May training goals thread?

So I sort of mis-read that right side thing-- he is still doing it on the ground but I'm also seeing more of the haunches moving away, so that is why he seemed to be doing a LY out. Trainer had some great advice. We are definitely reaching a new point now where I can start to ride in self carraige s...

Re: Can we get a jump on April/May training goals thread?

Ryeissa, could It simply be that he respects you on the ground more, and moves out of your space ? I wondered that too, but why is this correlated Left and Right? He doesn't do it at all going left. Could also be that I had a whip in this un-mounted work, maybe I was holding it differently in the r...

Re: Can we get a jump on April/May training goals thread?

Okies, I need help understanding something. My horse does not like to take the right rein. Going left he prefers to swing haunches right, look left, and not take right outside rein. Going right he likes to throw his shoulder into my right thigh and throw haunches left, needs babysitting with right f...

Re: please give me the words to use when...

I wouldn't expect a NH person to know about dressage, its ok. they are for different purposes. I've learned more from NH then dressage lately though, as long as I don't expect a dressage lesson. that is why I have a dressage trainer. you sort of have to disregard what isn't working and find what is ...

Re: How would you fix this in a horse?

the video I see is a western horse, not a dressage horse???

Warwick is a natural horsemanship trainer.

how I would fix it? good question. it sort of depends on that horse, better to ride it and then form a plan.

Re: Insight of the day: Sit bone vs knee

Interesting! I've done a lot of work to weight my seatbones equally. The seatbone that likes to float also has the thigh that is harder for me to use on the saddle and plug in. I use thigh to keep the horse bending and from throwing his shoulder against my knee. I use Right thigh and right seatbone ...

Re: Intro to Pirouettes: What's your strategy?

One idea from Paul Belasik: Traver down long side in canter, make an 8 or 10m circle still in cantering HI, HP back to rail, at rail continue down longside in counter canter. Flying change when you want. So essentially you go down the longside, circle, and come back in the opposite way. I love games...

Re: Online dressage training instruction

There is a month to month subscription. They make it really clear that it's a full payment for that term, and you will get charged. You forgot to cancel and now you are mad at THEM? Generally you do get to keep the subscription for the full period you paid for, so that is weird. I am in the US and t...
