Re: New Bliss video
You are doing a beautiful job with Bliss, Rosie. I love how much more open and jumping his canter is now. keep working on keeping your hips swinging with the canter, imagine you have a seat belt pushing back against your abdomen so that you have to swing your hips and pelvis instead of pumping your ...

Re: "More punch!"
I ride a TB, so there is a fine line between more "punch" and running. The only way I really know if I've asked for too much is when he flattens his trot or canter, then I know to take it back just a touch and re-engage those hind quarters. My goal these past few years is to never see &quo...

Re: Young horses of 2011
With the weather cooling off, Tio is more fun to ride because he isn't whining about the heat, and so I was really looking forward to working him finally. Went out to catch him Tuesday last only to find a large gash/bite (?) on his side right where the saddle goes! So, now no riding or even schoolin...

Re: Of bad weather and no covered arenas - whine
Make friends with cutting horse people. Their covered arenas are usually small, but better than not riding at all. I don't have anyone near me who rides dressage but I have plenty of western riding friends who will let me come in out of the weather if I want to; usually a small fee is involved to he...

Well, I finally got to ride yesterday! Between hunting and bad weather and stupid meetings, I had not ridden I essentially 1 month! Now with the more wintery weather, the boys are feeling quite full of themselves as evidenced by their constant galloping around the pasture bucking and playing. Rudy d...

Romf Show vest
I just bought one of these for my friend who is self-conscious about her "roll" when she rides in clinics. I have always worn some sort of fitted vest in clinic or lessons because it looks nice, the instructor can see my body better, but I could never get her to buy one that fit. So last w...

Can't we be happy for the folks who are here? Why must "we" always compare to COTH? I'm happy here, happy when and if others join, and assume there are a number who simply lurk these days. There are so many formats out there, ready to fill a particular need. This format suits me, but most ...

Re: Favorite young horse training books and DVDs?
I started to reply and then realized I don't recall any titles. So I will have to go home at lunch and see what's what. Suffice it to say, I have used Klimke's book, Kottas' book and Henry Weinmullen's book and fiddled a lot. Linda TTJ was helpful for dealing with Rudy's mature horse issues, not so ...

have you tried a dryer sheet? I know it works great on stuff burned into pots n pans and on my glass stove top. You simply put the sheet into cold water over the scorched item and let it soak for a bit, then scrub the gunk out using the sheet.

Yes, I was very glad to be safely in the truck. Less than 15min earlier I was skulking thru the trees and had even noted the either moose or elk poop laying about (honestly, I do not know the difference, lol.) Moose scare me, more so when I am cross country skiing with the dogs.

So we've been camping in the hills these past two weekends looking for bucks (my ds first season) and we've seen all kinds of beautiful mule deer doe, fawns and youngsters, lots of sage hen, bunnies and the occasional coyote. Yes, we are hunting (flame suit on), but what I love about it is wandering...

Young horses of 2011
Thought I'd restart this thread for those of us with 2011 vintage horses. Mine is Tio, a Belgian warmblood/TB cross I purchased as a long yearling. I did not back him until this year June maybe?) because he's one of those critters who grows one end at a time. His 3yr old year he was a mess trying to...

I reinvented myself once back in high school/college. One day I simple got tired of being so darn shy so I decided to change my actions even if I couldn't change the thought process. If someone called for a volunteer to organize something or be an officer in a club, whatever, I'd jump in with both f...

Re: Retraining the Reining-trained Quarter Horse
Sounds like he is finding the new work tiring. Remember, he is using new muscles, different from reining muscles, so frequent loose rein walk breaks are in order. Try to break before he becomes resistant. My Scotty (ottb rehab i once owned) went thru this early in his rehab but they were more like p...

I go clear back to when it was a USDF chat room and then the great Mark revolt occurred, etc, etc. I have no idea what my first post was, but it no doubt had something to do with rehabbing my then sorely abused, crazy OTTB Scotty. Over the years, I received great advice and not-so-great advice in th...

Moutaineer, another thing Beth Glosten said to certain riders was to imagine you had a seat belt on pushing your abdomen to your spine. This was to keep folks from arching the back while trying to engage the core. October is a tough time for me to get rides in, so my goals will be small. My goal is ...
