Mari, those are great pictures. I hope you got a good score on that halt. Very nice! Nope, a 6  He went up the CL very slowly and wobbly, proper drunken tourist. And the photo managed to get him in the split second where he pretended submission instead of swinging his head up and down and to ...

Re: Of fly spray and soaked saddle pads: July and August goals and progress
We survived our first show since before Covid. I was having some kind of out-of-body experience for the first part, really wasn't riding at all, and the marks reflect that. The trot work was just very okay. The canter work was lovely, and the first show at which he was very polite and rideable and s...

Whew ExVet, you had a much more challenging show weekend than me! I took Tesla to a schooling show today and last I'd checked yesterday, my first test was 12:57. I know this because I told my husband about 5x since he'd agreed to come take video. I have to say Tesla stepped off the trailer pretty c...

I find I can get a better lengthening for most of mine if I post but to really get a good medium (or extended), sitting for me gives me more control in keeping a horse up and open, not falling on the forehand. I'm fine with the rule change if it takes effect. I think we should all have the ability ...

If you don't like bounce just don't even watch, but this is probably the trot i would like to present in the show ring and do not quite get. https://youtu.be/n0y82H2cfHE I think perhaps I do not ride the contact consistently enough to translate power behind into shoulder freedom. You guys are all awesome. I'm loving the pictures and videos and updates. I've been very quiet, having a bit of 'n meh time life- and riding-wise, just not finding my groove. Show weekend done and dusted. 3 days of showing and learning moments and improvement each day. Mari, if I may suggest, if you like, practice some leg yield in canter, leg forward at the girth, don't let it slide back, so he can understand lateral to the leg at the girth. Thanks for posting your test videos Exvet! Junior's trot work is so lovely, agree with Khall, that entry down CL was lovely.
I also loved your initial few strides of the canter lengthening, he really seemed to take off properly, but then lost the expression about midway through.

I'm really not the right person to answer this (I've found literally anything in the world easier to teach my horse than medium trot...), but here are some things that have sort of helped. When you hit the long side, SI, then straighten into lengthen. Back to SI before the corner. Practice big trot/...
