What a cutie, Straightforward! Well I tried the OTTB gelding one last time. I'm passing. I honestly just find him much too strong in the bridle and stiff on top of the stifle issues. He's got a great brain but I just didn't enjoy him enough to be honest. It certainly could be how he's been restarted...

Actually we are looking for a Golden oldie for her to lease too. But I still think getting instruction from someone else is more fun for her. But a lease could be a fun addition if we find a suitable horse.

She's been with this instructor since September...

We are trying a lesson at the jumping barn for my daughter next week, if she likes it the instructor, I think the program is better. Correct, experienced, organized and safe.

@goldhorse thanks so much!! I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'll use these suggestions. I've just started clam shells and adding lunges too.

I think breathing is such a big thing for sure. It is starting to get better, but it was taking forever to feel capable of anything for any length of time!

I think thing is that the instructor doesn't have any formal education in teaching children. And I think on top of horsemanship, that's it's own skills. Teaching adults and kids is different IMO.

Chisamba, so if the stirrups are too long for a rider, you can wrap them around the iron in a way so little one's can reach them. Especially helpful for kids that are very short and petite like my daughter. I even have to wrap my stirrups if I'm riding in a very long legged rider's saddle, if they a...

It probably doesn't help that years ago I did teach very beginner lessons under some trainers that I worked for. It just makes it all the harder to sit there and watch someone fumble around trying to teach. I think the writing is in the wall. I haven't had this issue with any other instructors befor...

Hypothetical horse shopping is way more fun than actual horse shopping. I will track down something that would be my pick if I had no budget. Although it's hard to think of more than just sane and sound with nice gaits!

Mari, I could see me holding my breath! Especially during a lesson when I'm concentrating so much! Yesterday during a Dressage lesson I worked on relaxing my position. I work too hard at trying to perfect my position.

Blob, I do pilates (ab focused) at least 4 or 5 days a week. But I do think there is a strength issue sometimes but more in my glutes. No access to trails right now with anything I catch ride or lesson on. But I did find a a little place that offers trail riding and I think I might go with my family! Straightforward, great idea. I've done some similar things in the past. It's great and really mentally engaging to do lateral work that way. I love lateral work too. It's challenging but so rewarding when you get it right and see the difference in the horse's afterwards.

Mountaineer, yeah it's so hard. Slim pickings, high pricing and potentially traveling into COVID hotspots definitely make it more difficult. I hope it gets easier as time goes on. Or that something pops up near you!

Another possibility...if this horse hasn’t sold before you see him again why don’t you ask if you could pay to lease him for one month. You’d have to insure, but you could take your time as a trial and use your vet for the PPE. There are ALWAYS findings in the PPE so you could see if they are thing...

I will say that I probably make most horses look weak in the hind end. I'm better at getting relaxation than I am engaging them lol it's a flaw I'm working on...

Ryeissa, I also lost a horse to neurological issues that originally seemed a little weak behind do definitely hyper aware as well. I'm not picking up any neuro vibes personally, to me it's very classic stifle. But that can be normal weakness or could be OCD/arthritis too. Especially off the track. B...

Blob, he is a very good boy. I will decide if I want to vet after this next ride.

He does have filling in his ankles (I'm assuming/hoping osselets) and then he's at the very least weak in the left stifle. Unfortunately with an OTTB it's a toss up if they will vet.
