From the videos I’ve seen there’s no consistency in the contact. For me the consistency must come first, and only then do you encourage the forward, down and out. The videos I’ve watched show inconsistent contact, and the horses go down and deep rather than fdo. yeah, its just all so misapplied.......

What if you do more engaging things in the middle like walk over poles or do cavaletti?
As much as I don't like flashes or drops, for a very very temporary fix it might help till you get more of an idea what is going on.

Rye I like those head stalls you posted links to. Especially the one with the offset throat latch. Hmmm yeah. they don't look that different than normal bridles- not the "severe sweep" of some of the PSOS bridles....you wouldn't know it was a cutback if you just saw me in a show or lesson...

I asked my vet to draw me the shape of my horses' mouth in a dental visit and it was helpful to select a bit.
I think it's definitely a mix of horse preference and training. How much % of each depends on the horse.

I found the noseband I select makes the biggest difference overall. My horse really doesn't like cranks or flashes, or if the leather is too stiff/heavy/padded. I lost a good week and a half due to intense heat, but all good to go. Pony got clipped and is all ready for lessons, clinics and shows this week.
No specific goals per say, but riding 2:1 again and I would like to improve the 10m canter circles.

In my case my horse would buck into the canter before I changed saddles. It hasn't been a problem since I got a new one (knock on wood). It got worse at shows as the footing was different and he was more hyper.
My mare bucked into the canter due to sore hocks. Wish I knew then what I know now.....

Blob- no worries- trot lenthenings are not collected in the least. Just don't go Mach 20 and you will be ok :) you are a very nice rider and very capable of this work.
