Re: Creaky. What to do?
Agree about the movement. My DH who is 70 started working with a 74 yr old personal trainer (who looks like he's 35!) and it made such a difference in his balance that I started going, too. I can tell the difference after only 8 weeks. The big thing is the trainer pushes us harder than we pushed our...

Re: Senior gals with senior horses
I watched the vid of Sting. I watch some of his stuff back on UDBB and always thought you did just fine with him.
I think you should have a century club goal with him. I do with Rocky.
Thanks for sharing your progress.

Re: Your Dogs Stories........
I just got to this thread last night and am tucking it away in my head for a time when I need it , if that makes sense to anyone. Rockabilly, I feel like I know you in spirit. I only have a couple of rescue stories that I think are special, although really, most rescue stories are wonderful because ...

Re: Introducing counter canter
Anyone else work on this today? I really focused on engaging my core today and started just walking the shallow loops, in a small arena, and only going to the quarter line and back. I walked the pattern, changing direction after every couple of loops, for probably 10 minutes. I needed this amount of...

Re: Senior gals with senior horses
Anyone else ride today? how'd it go? Please share, because it's encouraging to know we're still trying. My knees hurt and it was uncomfortable to dismount but the ride was good. I am working 1st and a little second level and the main thing for the last 3-4 weeks has been to shorten my reins. Rocky h...

Re: Senior gals with senior horses
here's Coco's Bey Rocket (Rocky). I took the pic last week. She's 8 yrs old, 14.2 hh (14.3 behind :|) out of a Colonel Freckles daughter (AQHA) by a big boned Arabian stallion who's breeding I can't remember. I picked her out when she was 2 but didnt buy her till she was 3. Her breeder lives nearby ...

Re: Introducing counter canter
I've also just started introducing counter canter to my horse. I rode today before I read Magicboy's comment, and I realize now that I was leaning. A lot. I was doing shallow loops. I was fine going from the rail toward X, but going back to the rail I was getting myself out of balance by trying to k...

Re: Remember this little stinker? Before and after.
Kathy Johnson, you make it difficult for me to not come to the board and just look at the pictures! I've looked for a few years now and you're, of course, one name I always look for to see pretty pictures. The first time I remember noticing you was with an older Grey mare. Not sure, but her name may...

Re: Senior gals with senior horses
I was just starting to think that summer was finally over and then the hot weather came back. Yesterday it got to 99f (farenheit, but I was thinking of another f word). Today felt just as hot but I refused to look at the thermometer. I did arena work after 2 days off and it was okay all things consi...

Re: Tell us about YOU.
Another one here who is enjoying this thread. For me visuals work best for remembering people so I am posting the horse that I got my screen name from. I've had horses for most of my life and kept most of them for their lifetimes, and while I only had her for 6 years, she was the hardest for me to l...

Re: Cross training: Trail riding?
Not all of my horses have been good trail horses (two OTTB's that never could settle on the trails) but most of them have benefited greatly by regular trail work. The little mare i have now needs the trail at least once a week right now to keep her happy in the arena work. I started ponying when she...

Re: Christopher, my little poodle.
I am so sorry but at the same time so glad that Christopher ended up in a home that appreciated and loved him. Homeless animals, especially dogs and horses, tear so much at our hearts. I want to take them all home but know that the ones i have now would suffer because there is a limit to how many we...

Re: Uploading pictures
I have been trying to upload some photos but get the file too large message also. I uploaded a couple to UDBB the day before it shut down and they went through without a problem. so i just did a test and tried to upload the same photos that went on UDBB but i got the file too large message this time...

Re: The value of Interval Training...
I do an interval training of sorts with my horse and just posted about it in the "senior gals" forum.
Paulaedwina, Fella looks wonderful. He makes me happy just to look at him! I have watched and enjoyed his progress for a while now. Thanks for posting the before and after pics.

Re: Creaky. What to do?
I get creaky after not riding for a few days but mostly it is tolerable. I try to average at least 4 riding days a week and this keeps the stiffness at a minimum for me. Occasionally i do take naproxen which works for me, but I try to live without if I i can. i liked the article posted on the traini...
