Given that you have significant arthritic changes in your back, I think you need to ride in a saddle a few times to see if it hurts your back. I hose during the summer, and if I am suddenly overrun with free time I may use soap on them once or twice per summer and deep condition the tail at the same time. Otherwise, they get curried and brushed when they get worked. That's it.

FWIW I think you will get eliminated if you do full walk pirouettes as they are not found in any test at any level. You could avoid it by doing the half pirouette, clearly walk forward a few steps then do another one.

It's not really reasonable to expect a saddle to fit a more advanced horse if it fits the horse as a youngster. Horses change a LOT over time.
