Try shoes and see if they help. You can always pull them after a cycle or two and it should take about 2 months for the nail holes to grow out. If you are worried about the hoof growing a lot, make sure your farrier is willing to go to a 4-5 week schedule to trim and re-set if needed. My horse needs...

If her behavior has changed, besides trying to increase her time out of the stall/run, make sure she has hay as close to 100% of the time, maybe provide a treat puzzle toy, and I'd go ahead and treat for ulcers for a month.

Have that rogue hand hold the bucking strap in the changes. Once I did that, I actually found my horse needed more support from the opposite rein to help him stand up and stay straight - I raise that hand a bit in the changes and keep my overactive hand down and very, very quiet.
