Re: "What's for dinner?"
Leftovers of last night's amazing creation will be served in an hour. As for tomorrow, I have no idea. I am still laughing at my inability to know what I was cooking yesterday... but it turned out a-ok so that says something about my ability to throw ingredients together and produce something edible...

I started off cooking some kumara (sweet potato) with some onions. Then I added some cubed beets and a bit of water. And realised I had no idea what I was trying to achieve, so let it come to the boil then turned it off. Went to collect mum from work, came home, removed everything from the pot and ...

Re: Should I be concerned about turnout with a 5-month-old colt?
*This* is why I am crossing my fingers for a filly! If I end up with a colt, he'll be getting the chop, and until then will not be able to live with either of the other two mares on site. I wouldn't want a colt in with fillies or mares from 4-ish months of age, either... *filly filly filly I think t...

Yesterday I collected my 99th egg! We have only had the chickens a few weeks. Three didn't go off the lay at all due to the move (we only got 2 eggs the day we moved them, but the sellers also picked up 3 eggs before we took the coop). One took two days to come back on the lay, and Flighty Whitey to...

Last night, I literally ate flatbreads straight out of the oven, with butter. By the time we'd lit the bonfire, I wasn't hungry. There is *nothing* quite like bread, fresh and hot out of the oven, with butter. Tonight, the last of a bunch of locally grown asparagus. Which means I need to call past a...

I too found hardneck garlic doesn't store as well. Ours are completely free range during the day - they go where they want. I had someone who rode with me once a week for a couple of years. She was ultra nervous. Initially had her own horse (very retired) but eventually he died. She kept riding until she had her kid and has only been back twice since (he is nearly 3!) due to lack of time, and the rest. It worked well. Sh...

Does the horse come from far away? If so he could be reacting to something (eg insect bites) that the ordinary horses don't have any trouble with.
