Lipsmacker, I think his down transitions are lovely. Very smooth and balanced. My only comment is you are are straight trying to hold his head down. Put some bend in your elbow so YOU are more comfortable and balanced and then let him find his balance there, adding some leg as he needs help.

straightforward, actually, that is right on. they will mimic you. You can do the same thing to people. They will start following your breathing. Of course, you need to remember to breathe. I am on a break right now taking care of some medical issues, but I will play with that more when I get back on.

I just wanted to say, I finally found a place to sharpen my blades. I didn't want to send them to Idaho. Groom It Industries in LA. Shipped them off, they did them, and will ship back two sets of blades for $24. Pretty good. Just FYI if you need sharpening.

Oh, good point. To add, I don't use a flash and my nosebands are so loose I can take the bridle off without undoing them. I learned the hard way with their mom trying to hold a mouth closed only makes it worse.

My take on lunging is I don't like side reins, no matter how well used. It's too easy for the horse to pull against them instead of give to them. I prefer a degogue or chambon. They don't hold a horse anywhere, but put pressure on the poll and bit if the frame comes to high and bump them down.

What blob said. It is actually more difficult to get a horse to work correctly on the lunge. In the saddle you can help and support them a lot more. I don't lunge very often, and when I do it, I work on very specific things. I'm not a big lunger.
