Re: Strengthening the Canter
How old? That is very important as to whether to just let her canter until she finds her balance or do exercises. One way to strengthen the falling out is to canter a circle to the direction she falls out and keep her straight, straight, straight on that outside rein. That way, all of the "fall...

Re: Half pass zig zags
I always think of starting to straighten and then get the new bend through the leg, getting the horse on the new outside rein, a stride or so before the change. I agree with Dresseur that if you think haunches in in the new direction you will end up leading with them, which is very easy to do. The h...

Re: Just want to gush for a minute
That is wonderful. And great for your trainer. There is no reason any horse cannot do all of those things! And half steps are super good for all horses at most levels for so many things. I haven't seen a horse yet that can't do them.

Re: (I see) Dead Things
I'm betting it was the blood. Mine are used to all kinds of animals and don't usually react, but I always know when the wild pigs are near because of the way they react. They must have a very distinctive smell. My blind horse (who died 15 years ago) never spooked at anything except pigs and mules, s...

Re: "When you give the rein, give something!"
It makes sense to me. Whatever you're doing, you need to think of the purpose behind it and what you want to get out of it. I tend to ride with much lighter rein contact than a lot of people, so have been working on more. I just did some lessons with Lilo, and that apparently was about 1,000 times t...

Re: Has anyone heard of these saddles?
Yeah, that was what I was thinking. Her personal page has little to do with all of the saddles she says she's selling for the manufacturer on dressage saddles for sale.
When I originally saw it I searched some place in Canada selling them for 3/4/5 times what she says she's selling them for.

Re: Has anyone heard of these saddles?
Thank you. I'm trying to figure out if this is a scam or not. The price on the websites is much more. This woman says she's a dealer for him. One os a flexi tree and one a changeable gullet, and I have no idea if that is a good thing or not.

Has anyone heard of these saddles?
Jessican Firth on Facebook's Dressage Saddles for Sale and Wanted keeps putting up these saddles for $550 shipped that are going for a lot more in Spain. Here is one maker she says she sells: http://www.hermanosgomez.com/en/guarnicioneria-hermanos-gomez-products-catalogue/guarnicioneria-hermanos-gom...

Re: caveletti and hill work for the dressage horse
I can't imagine just doing flatwork in an arena for a dressage horse. It's so boring, and makes training and conditioning the horses so much harder. I can't stand it, either. If there are poles and jumps in the arena, I always incorporate them to warm up. I think it's really important to have horses...

My favorite painting choice is faux. It's the easiest thing to do and looks best. I pick the basic color I want, cut a bunch of chunks out of a roller, and put half the color and half a gloss white in the tray. Then I just randomly go back and forth. Looks expensive and great, and bever the same in ...

Oh yeah. I love wood. I would take everything down to natural wood. When I bought this house they had almost new whitish carpet. Ugh! But, I didn't take it out right away. It was so hard to keep clean. When I finally took it out and discovered stunning hardwood underneath, it was beautiful. The dirt...

I do the same thing. I think most people have no taste or sense of balance, so do the latest trends, and other people are stupid enough to pay for it. Look at everyone taking out great sinks and refrigerators and replacing them with stainless steel. Not only is that SO ugly, they are a mess and impo...

Re: Moving into town
I have not done this, but sort of have been thinking of not doing it. I do not have a large amount of land where I can keep my horses. but, I have a home in a very crowded suburban area and board horses. As we thinking towards retirement and maybe moving, everyone always says we can get property and...

It's interesting I can't find anything when searching. I don't see it all of the time, but have noticed it a lot lately. Since I have three in the same space, I'm assuming all three are doing it once in awhile. I'm assuming it's some hormone thing.

Dried mare pee leaves yellow spots
I'm not worried or anything, but just wondering. I couldn't find anything in a search. I'm supposing it has an association with being in season. Right now I have three mares who seem perpetually in season and are unendingly flirting with the boys and peeing so much at them I'm surprised they are not...

I have a mare that does that, and her daughters alternately do it. They get random bald spots on their bodies. Sometimes it is associated with rubbing and sometimes not. I just try to keep it clean. My other go to thing is neem oil. It seems great for any irritation, infection, bites, etc. in allevi...

Try neem oil. You should be able to get it at any hardware store. I bought it for other things, but it's my new favorite thing. I have one horse in particular who gets eaten alive by bugs along her midline, and at best I keep it covered with all the things mentioned. I started putting neem oil on it...

kande50 I know I should analyze the hay to be really good about it, but I don't have any say on the hay since I am boarding, and no real issues. In general, the hay here is too high in iron from my reading, and low in selenium. I have always given a vitamin E and selenium supplement because of the r...

Copper and zinc for feet
My horses are barefoot and I maintain their feet myself. In my quest to always try to improve and do better, I follow Pete Ramey's page on Facebook as well as others. He and his followers are big on CA Trace, the idea being that horses really need copper and zinc for their feet is much underrated. I...

We don't really have that issue here, but I stumbled on trying neem oil for flies, and have been very impressed with its many uses. I do not think it's great for flies, but other people used it at the barn, spraying it all over the barn walls and noticed a huge difference. I mix it with water, pyret...
