Re: Where to learn equine massage?

I was going to suggest Masterson too! https://www.mastersonmethod.com/ I watched his seminar. I've got the book and DVD. My 23 yr old horse really seems to relax and enjoy the body work. I'd love to do the 3 day workshop. I have the arena. Maybe some of us Oregon people should get together for trai...

Re: What is the trick to removing a halter plate?

Could you perhaps wind a rubberband around the "top" piece of the screw to help hold it in place while you back the screw out?

Re: What ELSE do you do for fun?

Kande, I love those! Someday I want to do a mosaic-tiled rock in similar style to your painted stones, to put in our yard with our house numbers. I keep pretty busy with my vegetable garden and running a few races per year. I have a half marathon coming up November 7th. I also seem to get in over my...

Re: Struggles in Cantering Up Hills

I also have a 5 yo Appy mare that started out with no canter and still doesn't canter much of her own volition. However, she will canter up hills. I'd maybe focus on big trot up the hills first. She might decide some of the time that canter would be preferable, but I think trot can help to develop t...

Re: Best winter riding glove

I've been using winter "sport" gloves that are like $12 at CostCo (not the glove liners but the slightly thicker ones). They have rubberized grip on the palms/fingers. Probably would wear out if you're riding lots of horses, but then, they're 1/4 the price of Roeckls. I have a pair of Roec...

No problems, and I work for the Federal government. But then, SmartPak was blocked for a long time, so I think that stuff is pretty arbitrary.

Re: Class of 2013?

Yes, how did I forget clippers? Luckily I have a very quiet pair of cordless ones that are great for training. Then we move up to the A-5's later. Loading - yes, we'll be going places weekly if at all possible. She pretty much self-loads in a very similar trailer to mine, so that is one place where ...

Re: Cross Tying

To add to what Code3 says, I will get an extra long rope and run it through one of the cross-tie rings. Use the cross-tie on the other side. Then, as I'm grooming or whatever, I hang on to the long rope and slowly (like over the course of weeks) decrease the amount they can move until they're within...

Re: Introducing counter canter

Even before shallow loops, you can head down the quarterline and then canter back to the rail (basically the second half of the loop).

Class of 2013?

Anyone else? My new 2 yo arrives within the next week. She knows how to tie, load and pick up her feet. That is about it  I'm trying to think of all the new things she will need to learn: Wearing blankets Cross-tying Going through barn alleys (she's been raised on 100 acres with a run-in shed) ...

Re: "What's for dinner?"

It's Columbus Day, so I'm off all day. Planning to make braised short ribs, maybe taken in an Asian direction with some fish sauce, chile paste and dried lime. Yesterday I pulled a bunch of Nantes carrots from the garden and just saw a recipe for roasted carrots with tahini sauce, so that will be th...

Re: Tell us about YOU.

I was AQHA Hunter on UDBB - like Phoenix, had a long-term hate for the name and actually had asked Deanna to change it about 2 days before the board closure announcement. I'll be 38 next month and live in Boise, ID. I currently own three  horses. Obie, the QH I'd just bought as a 2 yo when I ...

Re: It's Gone

Waahhhh!! I was planning to put my son to bed then spend my evening downloading the greatest threads from the training forum. Now it's gone without me having gotten anything saved. I wonder why he pulled the plug early? :( Yes, my plan for last night was to sift through the training forum and save ...
