Re: Bute, Equioxx or ?

All my old ones get Previcox daily which is just the "dog" name for Equioxx. It is a LOT cheaper. My 30 year old also has Cushings, but otherwise is still going strong and being ridden two to three times daily. I also give it to the 23 year old with navicular and the 19 year old with lamin...

Sorry, didn't understand your question the first time. I have 3 horses currently being worked. One, Cowboy,is ridden or worked at least 3 times a week. He is the youngest at 19 and has the fewest health issues. So he gets at least (8 x 3) 24 tums a week. He is about 1100lbs. Mariano (23 and about 13...

I started the tums practise many rears ago after a conversation with my vet. My vet was from an old horse family who had lived in this area for years and he had seen a LOT of horses. I use small amounts of Alfalfa also for those that exhibit any ulcer type signs. And with my vet's approval each horse gets 8 to 10 generic (Walmart brand) tums before being exercised. All of the horses like the peppermint flavored ones and gobble them down two at a time from my hand. Some of my hor...

One of the problems with having senior horses is that in the natural course of events you lose them. I lost my Minature stallion Sparky last Sunday night. He was 25 and came into my life when a friend brought him to board with me about 15 years ago. Three years later I lost his owner to an inoperabl...

According to my vet the major "digestive" side effect of Pergolide is anorexia. I have had two on Pergolide for years with no colic issues. BTW one of mine on Pergolide is a mini and since I need a pretty small dose I get compounded and flavored powder. It's much easier to dose.

Oh one other comment about the ballet. In ballet you frequently balance on one leg not two and in positions with your torso laid back, forward etc and using your arms as part of the balance. You learn to shift your center of balance. Again not wonderful for riding.
