Re: The "tells" of correct/incorrect work
To me an incorrectly worked horse is: - lacking muscles - may have hanging belly - sway back - thick muscles on the bottom of the horse's neck - too fat or too thin While riding: - seems to be stiff, unable to relax - dragging its feet, not bending its legs - moving as if being asleep or running aro...

Re: The jump to Second Level...
I agree, nice ride ElaPe., and similar to the second level tests here. Without knowing your national tests it's hard to know if the jump to second is the same. Are your national tests similar i structure to the USA ones,. Are you showing on LI? Thank you Chisamba. :) In Poland they have six differe...

Re: The jump to Second Level...
My jump from training level to second level varied 4 years (2008 -2010 training level showing, 2011-first level, 2012 second level). I don't think the jump was like crazy difficult because it all took quite a long time and at least 2-3 shows each year. I remember I insisted on showing second level t...

Re: Horses and Riders
Negocjacja, a 13-years old Wielkopolski mare (Polish warmblood) I have had her since she was 4 years old, and trained her up to 3rd level. In 2014 we moved from Poland to USA, we live in NY. This picture is taken on a dressage show in Old Field Farm, Long Island last year where we were showing 3rd l...

Thank you I think this winter was not so bad at all. Last year at this time we still had lots of snow on the ground.

Re: Riding in a winter wonderland...
So tell me.... did you love it??  it looks pretty but there is not much one can do in such a deep snow. So we only walked and did some few trot attempts. Trot in deep snow feels like trotting on a horse with huuuge trot. Wow! Neat picture, ElaPe. Your horse has a beautiful, shiny...

Re: Do you ice your horses legs after a tough training day?
I do 3rd level work with my mare and do not ice, nor put any liniments. I do hose with cold water on a hot summer day. I do not put any bandages or anything either - this, in my opinion, might contribute to overheating of tendons. I do pay thorough attention to proper warm up with lots of walk in te...

Re: Talk to me of long lining/double longeing/ground driving
I have been long lining my mare since the very beginning since whe was 4. Actually it was not a problem to get her used to the lines, nor the touch of them annoyed her. I found the lines to be more useful then a longe line because you have more control over the horse, especially on the outside shoul...

Re: Holiday Euro Style
In Europe, even in the colder countries such as Scandinavian countries, they have competitions all year round, except maybe from eventing in the winter, but still the eventers might just go to a dressage and jumping shows. So the horses do not really get months off with doing nothing. In the old day...

Beautiful ride. Gal as always impeccable as a rider, extraordinary good seat, invisible aids, perfect hand. And on top of that I can feel the same bond between Zonik and Gal as he had with Totilas. Zonik will do everything for Gal, he wants to please him, and Gal is responding with patting him now a...
