Re: The Heat is ON: July/August Goals and Progress
Good for you Mountaineer. These silly ones that see things in the bushes or corners. Kyra is so freaking easily distracted and loses relaxation then I can’t get any decent work. With Kyra, I feel a lot of it is baiting me into reacting to whatever she is reacting to. Unfortunately, a lot of the time...

Re: Thoughts on this video?
I don’t like holding or setting anything when riding. I don’t use side reins. If I want to influence my horse, I use long reins that I can easily give, yield or reward as needed. It might work on a big stoic WB but I don’t think my little sensitive, reactive off breed mare would appreciate that. quo...

Re: The Heat is ON: July/August Goals and Progress
Yes…Chisamba has many training gems. She has helped me immensely with the “treading water” exercise. Kyra has been so much softer, more through and dare I say ‘happier’. We are in the sweat box this week so I had a short ride this morning. It was already 90 degrees at about 10:30. I was going to jus...

Re: The Heat is ON: July/August Goals and Progress
Khall, I hope Gaila behaves on stall rest and heals well. Kyra has the hock sore from hell. Her stall is sufficiently bedded but at night, they like to lay in their pens which are sand. Tape won’t stick to her soft, slick hair…duct tape, Gorilla tape or Elastikon. I tried a generic Etsy hock shield ...

Cool pair SF. Ooh, that Queso hunk…doing tempis! Chisamba…you are a warrior. I tried going to one horse show after working all night back when I was in my late 20’s and said never again. Oh Mountaineer…seems like I always do that too…should have just let them go. Glad you corralled him before he got himself in bigger trouble. Kyra does not mind the skid steer but she loses it if the tractor goes by with the bucket raised. She started that after boarding at one particular farm. I don...

I have never had to use electrolytes…maybe because I don’t stay out any longer than I have to. Boarding and having just one horse helps in that endeavor. I try for sure to stay hydrated with water. OK…I tried poles…two…one on the opposite sides of the circle. OMG you would have thought I was asking her to jump the moon instead of canter over a ground pole. Re: The Heat is ON: July/August Goals and Progress
Other than it being hot…blech…Kyra is just being a joy to ride. Eager to go to work, nicely forward and being softer in the contact than she has been in a long time. The saddle change seems good. The treed saddle does give more area of weight distribution. She didn’t object to the treeless but seems...

Chantal, sounds like an overall good clinic. Yikes, I haven’t even had a lesson for years, let alone a clinic. Chisamba’s little nugget about treading water has helped us a lot. I am still playing with that but getting some lovely soft connection and feel like now, I can do a bit more. This spring w...

I agree with you. I also have to question the breeding directions with the gaits. I don’t like it…the Uber long legged spidery movers (like Jovian in the thread fromTOB). I had a lovely two-phase ride today. First part was arena work and she was spot on. I got some really nice softness and didn’t have to “tread water” for long. I like that term. Thank you Chisamba. I got a little tripod that I can attach my phone to the fence and get some video. Not ideal but maybe a...

Well..very interesting session today. I did as Chisamba outlined and had a very nice ride. Thanks for the very good explanation. That is basically what I have been doing the last couple rides—subbing the counter bending for a Demi arrete. Chisamba, I guess I am not sure what you mean by treading water?? If she softens ...
