Re: A puzzle: the gallop in two time
There are horses who gallop with TWO moments of suspension. Double suspension gallop. The Equine class at CF studied it last year. Apparently Secretariat showed it.

Is there such a thing as an anatomic girth that is not stiff - especially laterally (side to side) near the buckles? The ones I have been able to actually touch were so stiff - I cannot imagine them being comfortable at all. I currently use an ovation shaped waffle neoprene girth, but I think I need...

Chestnut, I think sometimes a young horse who is learning to push, and getting stronger, does not know what to do with all the new power! In that case a slower tempo helps. My trainer's method - be sure you can move the shoulders and neck anywhere you want in canter/countercanter. In other words, when counter cantering, be sure you can have him look where he is going, so he is somewhat counter bent as well as counter cantering. Then move the shoulders into the NEW outs...

I agree with what others are saying 1) the horse doesn't look 200 lbs under weight - with saddle on. 2) horse looks under muscled, not so much under weight 3) forage - hay 24/7 - easiest and best way to put on weight in my opinion. And I also am one that likes to go with something like timothy pell...

Note there is an exemption for horses that get reactions.
I believe this rule is a result of the EHV outbreak here in OCala at HITS a few years ago. They allowed horses to leave the grounds after it was diagnosed.... and other barns were then infected.
