Horses and Riders

Postby Flight » Sun Jun 05, 2016 1:52 am

Would it be a good idea to make a thread with each person's forum name and the horse/s they are riding?
I am HOPELESS at remembering people's names, so a thread with just name and horse pic might be helpful? Especially for keeping track of who's who in the goals thread.
No long descriptions, just a reference guide.

For example mine:

I agree, great idea!

This is my current project ... Panache (the horse I rescued as a long yearling), who is rising 5 yrs and doing some low-level eventing now. He seems to be finishing around 16.2h. Here he is at his first hunter show (got a 4th in this round out of 12 horses).

This is Jet, a 17-1/2h Friesian x Percheron gelding. He is solid 2nd level, but we're stalled at getting to 3rd level because of his changes (or lack thereof!). We're making progress, it's just s-l-o-w! He's 11 yrs old now. Here he is doing some half-pass in a clinic with Jacquie Brooks (crappy photo -- it's taken from a video but it's the most recent photo I have).

Just cuz I love showing her off, here is my daughter on her beloved 18 yr old Welsh pony, Seraphim. Sera likes to keep Kara on her toes and occasionally ensures that K eats dirt (!!), but K loves here nonetheless. Here they are at Kara's first-ever dressage show. She scored 66% (beat my score that day!). They make a lovely team!

And some of my others...

You might recall that the first pony I bought for my daughter was a 14.1h Fjord-X, Aggie. She ended up being *much* greener than she was advertised, so I rode her last summer and competed with her at schooling "short course events". She cleaned up in the most novice division, finishing the year as Champion for the division! I had plans to continue her training, but then found out that she had been "accidentally" bred at the boarding facility where I kept her last winter (don't even ask ... grrrr!!!). Anyway, she is now on broodmare duty so I won't be back in the saddle with her until late summer/fall. Here she is with her oopsy colt, a cute lil palomino (3/4 QH, 1/4 Fjord, and for sale):

This is the mighty BBB (Big Black Beast), Dante, who was 4th provincially in 2014 in novice eventing (2'9" division) and was Reserve Champion provincially that year at First Level dressage. He had last year off after my severe concussion a year ago, and has turned into a pasture puff just because I can't seem to find enough hours in the day to keep him in shape. I miss riding him, he was always a rock-star.

And finally, Loxley is my 3 yr old Friesian/WB gelding who I will be backing later this summer. I don't have a current photo so this one shows him as a long yearling. He's *much* taller & more stately now!

I'll add a few!
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater me and my big beast last Aug first clinic in the double, then I had to back off a bit when I found out he had allergic rxn to pythium and ulcerative lesions upper respiratory. Kept riding but backed off on double because of snorting.

https://www.facebook.com/34754646198627 ... =3&theater this is the mare that I ride, the big beast Rip's full sister. She is as big bodied as he is but a hand shorter. I have to say I do like a bit closer to the ground these days! No pictures on computer of me riding her, I just usually do not have someone here to take pictures. Here she is under the trainer I ride with as a 5 yr old. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater

https://www.facebook.com/34754646198627 ... =3&theater
this is Anna, she is pretty much retired now, would love to get her going again but not real sound right now. She is Han/TB mare that I bred out of my beloved TB mare I lost to a broken leg in 2001.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater my 21 yr old Han/TB mare Gallice' and dam of big beast and Gaila. She foundered last June and I am getting ready to start her back after we finish IRAP with her. Sound from the founder but after 10 months in a stall her bilateral stifle OCD is acting up. She is a great horse to teach off of and one I love to hop on bareback to ride. Gallie is the only horse I did not breed, though I did raise her from 3 months old.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater my newest edition and first foray into the baroque breeds. Joplin is a 2014 (so no riding yet!) Lusitano (Saphiro) cross out of Anna. She is a kind easy going kind of girl. I call her my Barbie doll horse with her long flowing locks!

A view of our farm into one of our pastures (just because we worked so hard to make the farm a reality!)

Negocjacja, a 13-years old Wielkopolski mare (Polish warmblood)

I have had her since she was 4 years old, and trained her up to 3rd level. In 2014 we moved from Poland to USA, we live in NY.

This picture is taken on a dressage show in Old Field Farm, Long Island last year where we were showing 3rd level 2 and 3 tests.

This is my now-9-yr-old German Riding Pony, Kiwi:
Image

As of Summer 2016 she's touched on all the things in 4th level but has only shown through 2nd. Goals for this year are to execute a clean flying change in a test that asks for one, instead of executing clean flying changes all over single loops. Yeah. That happened.

Okay, I'll try. I snapped this picture a couple weeks ago and noticed how different the muscling on Rudy (2nd lvl horse) is compared to Tio who is a green bean. Rudy is on the left and is an 11yr old TB while Tio is on the right and is a coming 5yr old Belgian warmblood. I bought Rudy for my 50th birthday as an unbroke coming 6yr old that had recently been gelded. I have been his only rider ever, up until a month ago when I let my sister walk around on him. I bought Tio as a coming 2yr old and have done everything with him as well. Both horses i seriously considered taking them to a breaker, but both times i eventually just climbed on when the time seemed right. No bucks, no fuss. :D I am planning on someone else putting flying changes on Rudy, however, but that trainer and I have very similar riding styles and philosophies so I don't worry about him being "messed up."

Fun to see everyone's horses.

Chisamba, that is a gorgeous green saddle pad (though not as gorgeous as the horses!)

Sue, Tio has turned into quite the chunk!

Yesterday was Pickle's third birthday, so I made a point of snapping a couple pics - she is by Rascalino (Rotspon) out of a Londonderry mare. Just a shade under 16H right now, so I think she'll finish in that 16.1 H sweet spot:

Yeah, Tio's a chunky monkey, gotta get the muzzle back on him. I was just waiting for this heat wave to break back a bit. Your horse is gorgeous btw SF.

She is registered GOV, but about 85% Hanoverian lines.
Keep calm and canter on.
