Connection Improvement no brainer

I recently had Emi's teeth floated (manually) by a new equine vet who specializes in dentistry. No only did this vet use good horsemanship to float her teeth without any sedation, but he really seemed to take his time and be quite thorough working on smoothing out a lower right tooth.

In my next rides, I noticed Emi being quite even and present in the connection on both reins, in a way that I had not experienced with her. In the past, the right rein has always been rather "fake" and empty.

I was having her floated at least annually, but clearly who does the float can make a big difference.

Piedmont - I'm also a huge believer in regular floating. I had a specialist tell me that younger horses need it even more frequently (whereas a lot of people think it's the older guys that need it more). I definitely wouldn't go more than a year on any horse and I think even a little under most of the time.

Glad you shared. :)

Agreed, a good float can make a world of difference. And yes, younger horses tend to need more attention because their teeth are softer- I get M's checked every 6 months just to make sure.

I agree! this and chiro. its amazing how much tension can build up in the poll, possibly from teeth needing to be done

Yes, my mare also really benefits from regular chiro.

I am planning for her next dental in 6 months, to be on the safe side. I shared this experience since I thought I was being on top of dental care, with twice yearly checks and usually a float every 10 months. My mare is 14. Her teeth were not terrible at this last appointment, but clearly she could have been more comfortable.
