I don't know of it in SH lines per say, but I had a horse with cervical arthritis. I treated with adequan and legend, but newer therapies might be available that were not at that time. IMHO It tends to be more serious than other kinds of arthritis and really affected the ability to bend. I was glad I did some neck x rays to see what I was dealing with

Hi, first post :) I had a Samarant gelding with cervical problems.Nothing severe showed on xray, but he couldn't bend his neck without severe pain and also had front leg issues where he sometimes couldn't get up from lying down and sometimes fell. He was 6 or 7 at the time and we treated it successfully with Triamcinolone injection 4 monthly. He, I believe had an accident while being shipped internationally (he had damage to his poll and forelock) He maybe had a genetic predisposition to this type of problem as he also had kissing spines. He is still alive at 14 and working at a lower level than I had hoped with someone else. Sorry if this is not good news, it was terrible to deal with but ultimately the horse was able to be kept comfortable which was very important to me.He needed full time turnout, plenty of movement and not too much stress and pressure.

I have definitely heard this. One of my good friends has a gelding out of Sandro Hit and he has cervical spine arthritis, diagnosed as a foal. She was advised to euthanize, but he actually became less neurologic as time passed. He can be ridden by requires injections to stay this way, along with high doses of vitamin e.

I have a Samarant mare who has not exhibited any signs. Her half sister also by Samarant has DJD and can no longer be ridden, I originally thought this was because of the mare line. I don’t have any further information but will follow this topic with interest.

I’ve just found this thread after I’ve had my Sandro Hit mare’s neck medicated. Vet discovered she has arthritis in C5, C6 and C7, and suffering with synovitis. Hopefully injections do the job
