I love being able to watch videos of all progress on this board. Pictures are great but videos really show how all of our horses do progress:) Videos also tend to get lost in the training thread so I thought it would help to have a thread of their own.

I’ve been documenting Joplin and her canter progress this year especially

So pleased with my girl. Hoping to be able to ride more consistently here shortly but who knows! Life can certainly get in the way.

OK, I will play. With the weather, today was the first day I was able to video since a crap lesson the day after Thanksgiving. It was informative on where I need to go from here with our new level of cooperation. Anyone who's followed our canter struggles knows this is pretty great progress. Apparently my SoloShot is a little depressed because it was staring at the ground a lot.

Really great progression shown there with Joplin!

Khall, Joplin looks like she has a lot of motion to deal with? She is carrying so much better.

SF…I was trying to figure out what kind of weird collar you had on her but then I figured out it was her tape job. She is really starting to elevate her front end.

Both look really nice.

Neither the PIVO or Soloshot are in my budget between upcoming vacation and early taxes  . I guess that is why they call it a “fixed” income.

We are not really doing anything video worthy yet anyway.

Nice progress on both Joplin and Tesla. Love the clip job on T too.

I shot video of both boys yesterday using my Pivo. The Pivo worked fine but trying to get it to load on my computer has been a bit of a challenge (the pivo upgraded and I haven't figured out how to work around the 'new features' yet. Hopefully I'll figure it out and be able to play in this ballpark.

SF most definitely huge progress with T! I love how cooperative she is just moving in and out of canter. That’s a big body to get such control of.

Kyra’s mom yes! Joplin’s canter has been a huge learning leap for me. I’ve never ridden such a canter before. Very animated and powerful to sit on and it’s been a bit of a struggle for me. She also has so much movement through her back so different than the WBs I’ve owned. I’m hoping the new leather tree dressage saddle will help. As she has changed in her ability to carry that has helped as well.

Exvet I have not played very much with my pivo. I know you’ve had good success with yours and the videos you’ve shared with both Brandon and Junior. Hopefully you can get the new features figured out! Looking forward to some more videos.

I’ve got some piaffe in hand to share once I upload them to YouTube. Was just playing around yesterday in a rope halter in hand. I love that I can put pressure of this more difficult work on Joplin and she stays with me.

No vids from me yet, but Joplin’s canter work is of great interest to me. After reading the article in USDF Connection about Iberians, I have a better understanding of why Besa’s canter is a little puzzling to me. I am working through it on my own, now that I have Besa at home. It’s a little easier to try to get in sync with her without the added pressure of taking a lesson at the same time. We’ve had some really good canter work and FCs in our lessons, but the time on my own is helping me to sort and think through things.

Video coming soon :-)

Here are a couple interesting ones. I set out a 20m circle with cones yesterday, and then I decided trying to ride with my "handcuffs" at the end of each ride. This was a first trying it with Tesla, and pretty illuminating/humbling on using the outside aids to contain that right shoulder. What I think is interesting is that I struggled with getting both mares onto the left lead with less room for cheating/crookedness, but once we got there, they both blew out several times. I will definitely be repeating and working on these. Tesla seemed to go better into the contact with longer neck almost immediately, and was showing more shoulder reach in the trot.

Nice work SF. I think I’ll use that exercise as a next step for Besa. Tesla looks so good I’m a little embarrassed to post my vids!

My clips are from todays ride. Since working with my trainer 5 days a week for about 7 months, I have only fleetingly felt that Besa and I were connected in a way that made us both happy, and that’s ok because I was learning a lot of new things. And to learn those things I had to shorten my reins quite a bit shorter than I felt she was accepting of. Of course, she accepted very short reins with the trainer, but smart mare that she is, she recognized my amateur status and has been bracing somewhat against the contact. So since Ive had her home(2 1/2 weeks now), I’ve just been experimenting with the connection. My reins are longer than my trainer would allow, but they are long enough that I can put quite a bit of seat on her to keep her stepping under, and also stay round. This is hard to explain, but I can “see it” in the vids Ive been doing of almost every ride.

So the first vid is just walk. The second one is 15 minutes later, and she has, much more willingly than in the past, allowed me to shorten the reins enough for trot and canter. I am really enjoying riding her like this. I am working toward gettin a short enough rein to get the lateral work and collection, but I want to keep her willing to accept it. I am feeling that she really wants to work with me.

Great thread! Good to see what people are working on.
SF the view from that arena is always spectacular, and I'm amazed your soloshot is still going. I killed mine a couple of years ago and it's too expensive to ship it back for fixing. I don't comment much, but have been watching your progress :)
Khall, I love Joplin's canter! It's the canter I need for working eq! And what I'm chipping away with on Ding. I need a stronger and more collected canter and he finds it really hard. Norsey is just like whaaaaat!
Demi, so nice to see vids of you riding Besa after hearing about her :) She's just lovely and she looks like she works with you.

I've had a bit of a holiday with my 2 over christmas, and now it's time to knuckle down and get practising again. This is the 3 barrels, which I find difficult to get a canter collected with enough impulsion to do the changes at the right place, to keep the circles small and the same size etc. You can see the first change is a stride too late and me over riding to get it. Ding's head bobs up and down too much (but he is trying so hard, he's such a good boy). I hope to improve this over the next few months.

Yes, I talk nice to mine when I take it out of the bag, and it has to be on life support (an external battery) to work properly. I see they have a program to upgrade to better firmware etc. now, but it is still not cheap. We have the Boise Mountains you see in the background of the videos, and then the Owyhee Mountains a little more distant to the SW, so we are treated to some pretty spectacular sunrises and sunsets, particularly when they're covered in snow and not smoke. :)

Demi, how fun to see a video of Besa. The two of you fit together so well; really lovely.

Flight, what a challenging exercise; I'm impressed!

I agree demi, you and Besa make a wonderful pair. She seems like a dream to ride.
Flight, you have given me some ideas!
SF I need to do the same with Brandon again. Molly had me do this in a lesson back in the summer and after the show I see that I need to revisit. Thanks for the reminder ;)

Here is Brandon and I in our Training level Test 3 from Sunday. We wrapped up qualifying for training level but there's loads of room for improvement. Still I was very happy with how obedient he was despite never having set foot inside this show ring before the test and with the very LOUD caller in the next ring to boot LOL.

SF what are handcuffs that you ride in? Challenging cone exercise! Nicely done.

Demi Besa is just lovely. You both are a great pair.

Flight those barrels are a neat exercise. WE certainly challenges your riding effectively ( general you). At least that’s how I’ve felt when I’ve dabbled in it. And having to do it one handed eventually. Just wow. I like watching the ease of handling round’s especially the master classes.

Exvet Brandon is looking very professional. Fun young horse!

Some piaffe in hand progression

And just some fun on a grey day

Lately I’ve been asking for piaffe more on the spot. So we go from trot to piaffe to trot. Rein back to piaffe and rein back to piaffe on the spot and forward to passage. Small passage not covering much ground but keeping the activity. Will get some video of that. I also play piaffe passage work in the rope halter just for fun.

Annabelle shows pretty nice scope over fences. Maybe I can manage to get some video of Junior and Brandon going through my makeshift jump alley.

Such fun! We last did a free jump with Odie when he was 5 I think (he's 17 now). I'll see if I can find the ancient video.

So no dressage videos, but this was a week and 2 weeks ago in our gymnastics lessons. Dressage lessons are going really well and we are working on very specific things and while I feel we lose a little of that, I think the benefits of the cross-training outweigh him getting bored. I love the transitions-what I don't show is all the transitions we do to get good ones. I see where my contact needs to be more consistent and sometimes the rein is a little too long.
