Free or cheap?
I know this was covered at UDBB but I wasn't smart enough to take notes back then. I got a new laptop a few months ago and the McAfee subscription that comes with it ran out, so I need to download something.

I really like Kaspersky's. Runs quietly in the background without taking up a lot of resources. I've been using it for years and it hasn't failed me yet.

I've been very happy (knock on wood) with Avast and Malwarebytes.
I know a lot of people have had great luck with Kaspersky - but I just didn't. I installed it after a virus-related incident, which was allegedly removed before installation, but the same virus came back a few months later. However, until that happened again, my computer ran very well with it and didn't have any problems.

You will probably need to uninstall what you currently have if you are changing solutions. Most often they do not play nice together.
