Browbands revisited

Postby capstone » Sat Sep 03, 2016 1:15 pm

Since my last thread where I had the poll and ended up buying the 2 browbands, I have actually bought 4 more.

I don't have much to say in my defense other than Cartier needs his jewelry. 8-)

I'll post pics soon.

Has anyone else gone down the rabbit trail of bling browbands? Or just me?

Not browbands, but saddle pads, or blankets actually. Since Milagro is going to play at western or cowboy dressage, or both, I've been having a bit of fun with saddle blankets. But I have to stop because they're really expensive!

Perfect name for a horse with 6 browbands!

My thing was saddle pads, especially Puffa Pads. The only color I didn't have was hunter green.

Not just browbands, but entire bridles, and my horse isn't really even under saddle yet. I just picked up a rolled Vespucci on eBay this morning.

And I've been ogling matching saddle pads and fly bonnets.

I am making a pile of extraneous tack and vowing to get it listed for sale while I'm off work this week.
Keep calm and canter on.

OOh I want to see your browbands! Is it from the same place? The only reason I didn't get one, was because I couldn't choose :)

I'm a bit of a saddle cloth collector, which is silly because I tend to just use the same one over and over anyway.

If anyone notices a good quality black bridle with brass fittings for a good price, let me know :)

Well, I bought my daughter a bling brow band for her for her pony several years back and it was from someone who's posted here. She loved it and we still have it though the pony was sold. Flash forward a few years and my daughter's making them and gave me a lovely one that I use on my pony. We have a few here and though I tend to be cheap and conservative, a bling brow band tends to be a must have in my book.....lol

I have recently bought him 3 new saddle pads. I have looked at many, many more but have managed (so far) to stick with grey and shades of blue. I have been eyeing a deep green pad and a deep red pad (not red and green!) as I think they would look beautiful on him, but we tend to stay fairly conservative at my barn and I think they would be too much.

I got him this whole set, just this past weekend adding the fly veil.

I bought Cartier a new snaffle bridle too (see my rolled bridle thread). But I felt entirely justified in doing so because he has been using a hand me down from Kuper for almost 2 years!

I did that for a while, several years ago. Let me see if I can find any pics! ETA: nope, not on the iPhone.

These are great because you don't have to take the browband apart, which is definitely the drawback of my scenario.

So there are 2 common themes underlying my recent rash of purchases:

1. Cartier has a lot of hand me down stuff. From Kuper, Brio, even Ynse I think. Bridles, saddle pads, halters, etc. Some of it is showing its age, and some of it I am just plain tired of after all these years.

2. Probably the bigger issue, the more I am away from him (working overseas), the more I want to buy stuff for him.

Capstone, your taste in pads is like my taste. I love the simple dark cool colors on a pale grey! Somehow Emi looks dressed up just wearing black. That damask patterned one is really nice. Is it also an Eskadron?

Yes, it is. I got it and the navy one from the same UK seller.

The green pad with emerald brow band is gorgeous! Sapphire would be nice too with blue pad. I'm thinking red more for a dark bay or black horse.

Yes, the same place. I visit their site far too often. I actually went to their event weekend before last (it was near London and I happened to be in London) so I could see the colors in person. So I can make more informed decisions!

However, I have taken the opposite approach from you - I can't decide so I have gotten all of the ones that I love.

Oh good! I haven't bought anything of theirs before so I was wondering. Do you think the green would be true to the photo? I'm having visions of it showing up more of a teal, which would not do at all! Lol

I have an aversion to sapphire for some inexplicable reason.

I do have this blue one, which was one of the original ones I bought.

I also bought this blue one more recently, and haven't even had it on him yet. It fades from dark blue to lighter blue to an irridescent white. It is the one of my purchases I am most iffy about. We shall see how it looks on him!

I was thinking of a red pad because of this browband, which was an impulse buy when I was at their event weekend before last. I ordered 2 browbands but I wanted to walk out with something in hand!
image.jpeg

But since it is not only red - it has clear and black diamond which is basically grey - I can use it with his many grey and white pads.

The third browband I got him was this one.

It was my first (and last) time to buy one of the "megabling" style browbands. At least the colors are understated, but the extra width to the browband definitely makes it more imposing than the others.

And on him, plus a fly veil!
image.jpeg
image.jpeg (56.28 KiB) Viewed 29335 times

My trainer had him all decked out for his appearance on a morning news program. The photo is not the best quality - was just a quick one while they were being filmed. And it bugs me that the browband was not situated properly with the piping on the veil, so it is obviously crooked. If I had been there...!

I have purchased several LeMieux saddle pads and they are by far the best pads that I have ever used.
The D ring attachment is the best thing since sliced bread.
Color is true to the advertisement.

Thank you for the recommendation!

I always cut the Velcro straps off the front of my saddle pads. They are so awkward and I find that my pads rarely slip.

I'm a LeMieux fan as well, mostly because I need the high wither fit. I like the D ring velcros too, I always chop off the other velcro tabs.
(My recent saddle cloth was plain black - boring I know! But the same as the green one pictured)

Oh yeah. Now I have a LeMiuex seller's shop bookmarked. The D thing is genius, I always cut off the ones that go on the billets, too. My only complaint is that their color line doesn't seem to be designed for the red headed mares. I am definitely getting a full set of brown, either LeMieux or Eskadron or both

Surely it's not considered advertising if it's simply the maker of the pad. But I don't know.

Well, it says amateurs may not have a business or product name unless they own the business, so I think it would have to be removed or covered up some way, but the patch itself would be OK.

Help! I can't find any sellers who have a green Lemieux dressage saddle pad in stock. I inquired about the one that I had found and I was told it was a mistake that it was still listed on their site.

I wanted the Vogue but the ProSport is the other one that seems to have come in green.

Thank you!!

Ironic that I didn't find it because I was searching for green and they call it emerald. :D
