Your squee for the day -- alpacas & chicks

Postby DJR » Sat Oct 01, 2016 1:51 pm

Here are some candids from the last week or two around the farm, for your squeeing pleasure.

Day-old chicks I found a week or so ago. It's chilly here now especially at night, but momma is doing a great job with them and they are thriving.

My newest venture: alpacas! Here they are on day 1 at my farm, investigating the alien "cat" creature.

My daughter LOVES the alpacas, and the feeling is quite mutual. This was from this morning.

These are yearling males. There are actually five of them but the older grey male prefers to hang out with my llama. We'll be bringing home some bred females at the end of this month, due to have their crias next August/September. Hold on to your hats because when I post cria pictures next year, it'll be UBER-SQUEE worthy!!!

Alpacas!!! I *am* jealous! I've always wanted some but when we bought the farm I imposed a "no exotics" policy on myself.

Squee! There is an alpaca farm down the road. Is one named Jolene? Phil Dunphy on the show Modern Family brought home an alpaca named Jolene. Can their hair be spun into wool?

Yes, the main use of alpacas is to process their fleece into many different products including wool & felt. They have the softest fleece that is used to make many things including warm, fuzzy socks and comfy-cozy sweaters.

They're very cute, but I could swear they come from outer space!

There is a definite "other-worldly" quality to them!

Your adorable daughter and the alpaca she is holding look like they are best friends sharing a great secret. She is one very lucky little girl.

That's Nautilus, or "Nauti" for short. He is a total lovebug and the feeling is quite mutual with my daughter!
