My aussie died suddenly before Christmas (she presented with heart failure and did not improve).
Yesterday we picked up this guy:
He's a red sable german shepherd and is fitting right in. I think he'll be good for my BC although the cats are less than impressed!
It's been a long time since we've had a puppy (12 years to be exact!). Wish me luck!

You might really like Puppy Culture training series. Jane Killion (When Pigs Fly) follows puppies from birth to 3 years to teach how the foundation skills the first year of life result in awesome dogs for life.
I have coonhound scent detection dogs, a couple rescue GSD and working border collies. And although our litters remain intact for 12 weeks (bull terrier moms are kinda done with their kids at 4 weeks!) we begin the recall, crate and housetraining etc at 4-5 weeks. Or if I get an older puppy or adult dog in for rehab, I use the same methods as we use for puppies to educate the new dog.

Your pup is beautiful! And it is GREAT for the puppy that you have the adult dog to mentor! That makes things sooo much easier if you have a Nanny dog!

Thanks everyone. Sorry that I forgot the name: his name is Guinness. He's showing himself to be very intelligent. Both parents are from working lines. Thank you for the link Reiter- I'll take all the help I can get.
We're getting into a routine. He's very people oriented and is already coming to me for a treat (organic) right after going to the bathroom.
It's hard to get photos of a moving puppy but he found a patch of sunlight and dropped to sleep:
