Done deal, I bought a horse!

Postby KathyK » Sat May 18, 2019 12:09 am

Oh happy day, I found a horse that I like! The on-site PPE went well. I forwarded the report and x-rays to my vet/friend, who would have had no qualms about saying, "Don't buy this horse!" but she said she agreed with the Canadian vet's findings and was very happy for me.

So, he's unlike any horse I've owned (not that I've owned that many, lol) and I can't remember every riding one quite like him. He's a 12 year-old Friesian/TB cross, showing 4th level with scores in the mid-60s. He's a sweet, steady, nice guy. I got very lucky to find him. I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with him.

Name starts with a "B", perhaps?

And if it's the same horse that I think it is, he's a nice fellow and very capable. $30k-ish US seems reasonable for a horse that showed (and won) at 4th level.

Thank you all for your good wishes. My disappointing experience with the giant monster mare just about took away my desire to have a horse, but this one has made me feel differently. I had a nice talk with his (very sad) owner today, and she confirmed my feeling that he will be a great horse for me. Because Monday is Victoria Day, I have to wait until Tuesday to call the vet and arrange the PPE.

The PPE on site went well; I've sent the report and X-rays to my vet to look at. I'm hoping to hear from her today. I'm cautiously optimistic. No, that's not exactly right. I'm cautiously over the moon!

He won't be here for at least a week, maybe two. The vet is working on getting his Coggins test results and health certificate so he can travel from Canada. Then we have to coordinate with the shipper. But I promise pics after he gets here. In the meantime, this is his sale video on Youtube, complete with a pigeon chorus:

You tell me -- am I going to have a lot of fun? 8-)

I also used the same shipper as musical comedy to get Pal most of the way to NV from ON and they were very good.

Yes, this is who we're using! I'm really glad to read about good experiences with them.

Thank you all for your good wishes. It all seemed like a dream at this point, as it's been two weeks since I met and rode him, but when I wired the money today it became very real. I can't wait to get him home!

He sure is! Almost everything I've ridden has been a kick ride, so this is going to be really different. I put the deposit down on the stall this afternoon. I'm so lucky to have found him.
