So my mum has cancer - again

Postby Figgy » Sat Dec 19, 2015 10:55 pm

4th? 5th bout in 17 years, this time in multiple places. One growth is 12cm x 6cm x 6 cm the others are around the 1 - 2cm mark. They are still testing to see what type of cancer it is. (Is it ovarian cancer or is it lymphoma).

She's so sick at the moment, has been sick for a while but they've only recently diagnosed the cancer as it wasn't visible until they did MRIs and cat scans trying to work out why her 'stomach' bug wasn't clearing up.

Dad is also losing cognitive ability as well, his dementia/Parkinson's has progressed to the point where he can't count backwards from 20.

Good news is that the garden looks lovely, its a going to be a hot day today (38C) and we're having our Christmas dinner family get together today.

I know we all have to face our parents mortality one day, but one day is far easier than today.

True, this. I'm sorry. It has kind of snuck up on us all at once, I feel.

Oh I am sorry. My mother has her third cancer and I think this is the one that will take her. it has spread to her liver now and she's looking pretty frail.

Hugs. and know that you are not alone.

I don't think it's ever easy. I'm sorry for every part of this experience. It is so hard.

Cancer and old age suck big time and together even worse. Hugs to you and your family.

I am really glad you have today with them both, but man, this is really tough. And I too, really appreciate what you said - one day is easier than today.

I am sorry, Figgy. Dementia in one and cancer in the other - a very tough time for you all. {{{{{Figgy and family}}}}}

thanks for all the well wishes, they help.

yeah, she's so sick at the moment, just got back to Brisbane today, I think 2016 is going to be a lot of back and forth to mum and dads. My brothers are all quite upset, especially watching her suffer while waiting for results of tests and specialist discussions. She's fine of a morning but by afternoon her blood pressure goes up, her body temperature goes up, everything she ate for the day comes up....its just great.

Ahh well, life's a journey and we can only take it one day at a time.
