See my post under "Ant Infestation" thread to learn why I'm now looking for appliance number four in a month. Washing machine, vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, and now iron. My month long subscription to Consumer Reports ends this week... sigh....
I like heavy ones with good steaming ability and several temperature adjustments. The best one I ever used was an old thing that must have weighed 20 pounds. Any brands you like better than others?

I've always had reasonable luck with Rowenta. However, I regard irons as disposable items as our water here is so mineral-rich, and I can't be bothered to use distilled water... I reckon if I get 3 or 4 years out of one I'm doing OK.
They are all useless here compared to English irons, though. I think the extra volts lets the steam regenerate faster and more abundantly or something.

I think I have 2 irons in my linen closet for over 20 years. No way do I have time to iron. Items must be wash and wear for me too.

I love to iron and have had a Rowenta for about 20 years. It does the job, but I'd really like a heavier iron. Let me know what you choose. I'm tempted to get the old fashioned non-steam iron from Vermont Country Store and do my own spritzing. My water is so hard that the steam doesn't work too well on the Rowenta and the instructions say do not use distilled water.

I hardly ever iron, and being rather inept at it, I really like the cordless iron I bought a few years ago. For bigger swaths of fabric, I'll keep it attached to the cord, but for little fussier things that require turning the iron around a lot, being free from the cord is pretty helpful. I don't know if my particular model is anything great, but this model seems to have high reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-NI-L70S ... dless+iron
Keep calm and canter on.

Rowenta all the way...been loyal to them for a good 20 years. I have city water but still use a softener, so I buy bottled spring water for my iron. I think it helps extend the life. Mine is a nice weight and puts out a lot of steam. I do use it a few times a week. I have bought factory rebuilt ones and they last a long time too ...even with daily use.

The heavier the better, and just the simple style with enough room to feel my boot won't get caught if I fall off.
Oh...wait...
