WEG 2018 at Tryon, NC

Postby AirsAboveNC » Sat Nov 05, 2016 1:54 am

So, I'm super excited that the WEG is happening almost in my back yard. I'm probably going to annoy the hell out of my non-horse friends on FB over the next two years, and I don't even care.

Anyone around here considering attending?

I saw this great video that showcases the planned additions to the area and that's gotten me even more excited. Tryon is out in the foothills away from major cities. It's a quiet, rural area and the expansions they're working on should make it into a good resort destination for more than just horse people!

Is the facility ready. I read a while ago that XC was more like a derby course

They recently acquired the nearby golf course which is currently being turned into the xc course expansion.

I will definitely be going. I went to WEG at the Kentucky Horse Park and had a blast!

I would think about going but it would depend on the ticket prices. They were ridiculous for Lexington, as were the hotels.

I can't speak to the ticket prices, but I do think Tryon has an advantage over Lexington for lodging because of proximity to other fairly large towns and cities. Charlotte's an hour away. Spartanburg, SC is less than that. Etc. It may be worth weighing the local lodging against the travel costs to drive in from nearby.

I need to check out the re-vamped Tryon. This is about as close to me as Lexington---I have no excuse!

AirsAboveNC - do you know of a secret shortcut from Charlotte to Tryon? Google maps says that is 2+ hours. Which is too bad, since my brother lives there and I'm sure he and his DW would love to host all of us!

Hendersonville NC is 30 minute away and is a cute little city. But, I seem to remember a steep descent from the mountains down to the piedmont.

I'm considering. But certainly not local. :)

It definitely depends on what part of Charlotte you're in - CLT is pretty big! I live north of the city and it's more like an hour and a half for me.

Tryon is 1:15 for me and I'm at least forty five minutes from Charlotte towards Tryon. Spartanburg is about 45 minutes, Greenville is about forty minutes, Asheville as about forty minutes.

I need to go ahead and block the dates off my calendar so I can make it!

Definitely planning on going. My best friend and my pony are in Charlotte, so going to combine all kinds of good things!

It's in the middle of busy season in September, so there's a good chance I won't make it. :(
