As I go to fill in a dressage registration form for one of our horses, I realise that though I've always thought of him as bay, he's probably brown....
What say the DDBB?

Dark bay. My mare is even darker and is registered as a dark bay.

Thanks for all the opinions!
I was leaning towards brown after reading this website:
http://colorgenetics.info/equine/pictor ... -and-blackTheir description of brown fits in terms of his legs being black above the knee/hock, his light brown/fawn muzzle and flanks, and the 'shadow' of black along his top line.

I think he is brown, but that's often registered as "dark bay or brown."

I was going to say bay, but after reading the info at your link, I would definitely now say brown.

In reference to that article, I'd like to know how they distinguish between bay+sooty+pangare on the one hand and brown on the other.

I would xheck with your registry. Many do not differentiate but if they do they may have their own definition.

Bay. My Basco is brown, and in contrary to that webpage, most all brown horses I know have brown "bay" markings, not truly black, and many of them have had genetic testing for brown.
