breast cancer, chemotherapy and mastectomy

So, on March 20, I had a double mastectomy to remove what had been a large (5 cm) breast cancer in my right breast.
I opted for the double mastectomy because, why give it another place to grow?
The mastectomy was a breeze for me. No pain. I've been off pain meds since the night of the surgery!
On Tuesday, I got the pathology results back. There was no residual tumor seen anywhere. Of the 27 lymph nodes taken in my right armpit, only 2 had "changes" consistent with what had been cancer but that the chemotherapy must have killed. YAY!
I only had 4 of the 6 prescribed chemotherapy treatments because I got too sick and my electrolytes were completely screwed up.
So, today, I go to see the oncologist to get next steps. Hopefully, I can start radiation soon and get this whole nightmare behind me.

Man, you sound lock-step with my friend who is, as I write this, waiting to be released from the hospital after her double mastectomy. I brought her in yesterday, surgery was five hours (including implanting the "stretchers"). She'll be home tonight and we have a crew to do her chores the first week or two, whatever she needs.

Riding will be so much easier.
If you go down the reconstruction line get a DIEP if you can. They use your tummy fat so you get flat tummy with new verandah.
