Curry comb collector

Postby PaulaO » Mon Aug 07, 2017 2:55 pm

I cleaned out Bob's grooming tote. He had SIX curry combs. One jelly scrubber, THREE jelly curries, a flower curry, and a hard plastic curry. I know Miss A. likes none of those, so after washing them I donated them to the school horses. I cleaned Ariel's grooming tote. She had FOUR curries, and tolerated none. One jelly scrubber, one jelly curry, a rubber pimple glove, and a plastic curry (that one was acceptable to her to take crusted mud off). I bought the HandsOn gloves a few weeks ago and those she likes.

TEN CURRIES. Ridiculous. My brush tote is so light now and I can actually find the hoof pick....

Whereas mine just hate the HandsOn gloves unless they have deep midwinter coats on. We do better with gentle use of the metal curry for breaking up caked on mud.

I have a ton of sad-looking brushes that I need to weed through. Some critter got at the ones in the garage and munched off an angled side on a lot of them. I really need to make the time to sort them all out.

Not that you need another, but my trainer was singing the praises of this one https://www.chewy.com/oster-equine-care ... lsrc=aw.ds and once I used it, I ran out and bought one. The between the fingers grip is a way better design, it's soft enough to use on legs but still breaks up most mud. I got the Hands On gloves but don't find myself using them since I can't just grab them and whisk away some mud then switch brushes as quickly.
Keep calm and canter on.

Maybe we should find a worthy equine therapy barn or other non-profit barn, gather up all our no-longer-used-but-still-useful grooming tools and put together a big 'ol DDBB Christmas box for this year 8-) I have a little batch of grooming stuff stored away that I'd be happy to re-home to a worthy cause.

I teach at a therapeutic riding center in Michigan. We love different curries and brushes to help our students with different abilities groom their horses. I'd be happy to pay postage & facilitate a donation. Our center is a non profit.

Another request for mailing info from TR Teacher, please. If you don't mind PM'ing me, too. Is there other equipment/tack your facility is needing? I probably have some extra items to re-home.

I would be afraid to count how many different kind of curry combs I have.

I LOVE my hands on gloves - so much so that I have 4 pair ! For only 2 horses and 1 of the 2 gets infrequent grooming sessions.

I have one of the oster ones that Straightforward posted about and never use it.

I have the rubber, metal, small rubber, and recently added 2 Haas hard as a rock large curry's. My horses seem to LOVE the Haas ones. The rest will need to be trashed or sent off to TR teacher.

I think it's time for me to clean out my grooming boxes too!

TR you can PM me too, not sure when I'll get around to the cleaning, but when I do you get my excess....

A huge shout-out and thank you to PaulaO! I'm running the goodies out to our program right now--so they can be put to use for summer camp!! The generosity of this board never ceases to amaze me!
