I have a diagnosis, at last, and it's quite interesting

Postby Moutaineer » Fri Oct 30, 2015 6:40 pm

Vocal cord dysfunction.

Years and years of asthma treatments that never actually worked, allergy treatments that never actually worked, being told that it was all in my mind, an annoying persistent cough and recurrent upper respiratory infections...

A new doctor--ENT guy. Scoped my vocal cords--they open and close randomly rather than when they should.

Speech therapy to learn how to breathe properly and to control them, and I should be AOK!

Happy dance, I tell you, its been a long, long road. Apparently, not an uncommon road for those with this issue.

Yay - I'm glad you finally found a doc who would listen and also a fixable diagnosis.

Onward and upward!

Yeah! It's nice when the fix doesn't involve surgery.

It's so nice when you finally have something concrete and can finally figure out what the heck to do about it!

One of my students was just diagnosed with this as well. I'd never heard of it before, now twice in one week

My barn mates of course all hooted with laughter and have decided I'm a roarer... not quite!

Strange, eh, Tulsa. I understand it's a fairly new diagnosis.

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. It's freaking hard to recover without a diagnosis.

:( I hope you're feeling better today. I'm glad you got a diagnosis that means you won't need drugs or surgery to fix the problem.

Phew. Just traveling the road (tests, appts, etc.) to a diagnosis is exhausting. Hope things start get easier.
