Girl soccer team is called "Beavers" - REALLY???

DH and I were in the local Safeway and the high school girls soccer team swarmed the place after practice.
They were all sporting T-Shirts emblazoned with "The - town name - Beavers".
We didn't know if we wanted to laugh or cry. Clueless anyone?

Some of my students were cheerleaders at Page middle school... Yes, PMS.
But I find the beaver thing as distasteful as camel toe. Something to be ignored with the supercilious scorn it deserves.

Yeah I think it's pretty innocuous around Oregon. Personally I think of the animal when I hear the term...is it still commonly used in the other way?

There's a school in a tiny town in waaaaaay NW Michigan whose school name is the "Nimrods". Really.
