My house horse

I've been teleworking in our daylight basement for a month now, and eyeballing my spare saddles and occasionally sitting on them.

This week I put my saddle stand on a furniture dolly, added some shims to level it out, and even girthed it up and added some stirrups. My workspace is up high enough that I can sit in this saddle while I'm working.

I've spent a few hours in it the last few days and I think it's going to be pretty helpful. I've been trying to trace the causes of some of my position flaws, and notice things that I don't necessarily notice while I'm riding. For instance, my biggest battle is collapsing my left side. I also tend to rotate my right leg and foot out more than the left. I noticed today that I don't really keep my right seatbone grounded, and that the right hip is stiffer due to being dominant and stronger. So I'm working on grounding the right seatbone and rotating my hip. I also noticed from video the past two rides that my upper body doesn't turn to the right very well. My house horse is not bothered if I over-exaggerate the right bending while I try to figure out where the restriction is.

So, I'm excited about my house horse and think he's going to be really helpful. Bonus that he doesn't eat much!

Love it!

Similar effect to the rodeo barrel we "rode" back in February without the motion.

How cool! You are very clever. And are you sure it's a gelding and not a mare??? :D

What a great idea! It sounds like it will be very helpful (as long as you don't get bucked off!)

Way less attitude than my chestnut mares.

Canyon, the girth is so I don't get bucked off. I have a Balimo stool at the office and yes, it's dumped me at least once!
