documentary....
If something really tragic happened in your life 35 years ago and a documentary about it was going to be on the Discovery Channel, would you watch?
Re: documentary....
I think I would. Sometimes things like that can be cathartic

Unless they show crime scene photos.
Re: documentary....
Depends....I was in a bad car accident. About 13 years later I found the accident report with pictures while doing a deep clean of all my things. It was super hard to read at first, stirred up a lot of old emotions. Seeing pictures of the vehicle I realized how fortunate I am to have lived. But in the end I was able to address some of my issues that I didn't even really realize where still issues.
So I say yes, but have support ready for how it impacts you.

I agree w/6c about contacting the filmmakers for an advance showing. That is really a NECESSARY courtesy for those affected by their documentary and there's really no way for them to shirk this responsibility to you as the one whose story is being told. ((I hope you're able to view it and see it in your rearview mirror w/no aftershocks. But just in case, I would contact a psychologist beforehand and make plans to have a visit or several in the weeks following. All the best to you and yours over this. That is one of the uncomfortable things about journalism that one never gets over — the possible pain one might inflict.))
Re: documentary....
I was in some combat in Vietnam that subsequently was made into movies, I cannot watch them. I saw some segments which jumped at me as being totally and completely inaccurate ...which was just a disservice to those that were there
Re: documentary....
Thanks. I don't know when it will be on, there's nothing posted about it yet. My mom was contacted by DC because she's on the list of people to be called when the parole hearing comes up every 10 years and she warned me it was in the works. Two counts of 1st degree murder... it's a horrific story and PTSD definitely came back instantaneously when she told me.

No advice, just (((((hugs)))))

I don't think there are any right or wrongs in this situation. Though I would be tempted to watch it, I can't say that it's the right thing for everyone.
