Walking on the Moon

Today marks the 55th anniversary of astronauts' first steps on the surface of the moon. My dad was working for NASA at the time. He was always bringing home official NASA photographs of astronauts, of rocket ships and all NASA-related images, plus sew-on patches of the mission insignia, rocket-shaped lollipops, etc. We had a large, framed reproduction of the iconic 'earth rise' photo hanging in my parents' bedroom for a long time. I remember this event was a BIG thing at our house. I still find it very exciting to hear recordings of the conversation between Mission Control and the astronauts in the lunar module on its way to touch down on the moon's surface
