Scrunchy Update

Postby Suzon » Mon Jan 04, 2016 9:03 pm

Scrunchy had been out of her cast since the Sunday after Christmas, so just about a week. She's doing really well. The instructions we got said absolutely no running and jumping. Yeah, right. You try to keep and 18-month old goat from running and jumping. At first when she got too rambunctious I would catch her and put her in her cage, but now I'm just sort of turning a blind eye. The more she's out of her cage, the less rammy she is, so things are quieting down a bit.

She absolutely seems to love being inside where she gets tons of attention and snuggles and no one beats her up. We've had her out on the deck to get some sunshine and her brother, Dax, comes up the stairs and hangs out with her on the other side of the gate. She always says hello and then pretty much ignores him. After the rains this week, we'll probably start letting them be together on the deck and then start letting her have some supervised periods in the yard. She's going to be so let down when she finds out she has to sleep outside again. :o

I don't consider her housebroke, but she's definitely house managed. She gets let out of her cage first thing in the morning so I can clean it. Then she goes back in the cage, gets 2-3 60cc syringles of water and eats her hay. With the water intake, she is stimulated to pee and she always poops immediately after. When that's done she gets let out. We do the same routine mid-day and early evening. Seems to work perfectly.

Is she an inside goat now? Do you let her on the furniture? LOL

I'll be interested to see how absolutely* she returns to being an outside goat.

OK, I've lost it. I'm now singing the Eurythmics "Who's that goat, running around the room? Tell me who's that goooooaaat, running around the room?"

Her eye in the latest picture definitely has much more light and fire in it! She's great and I think maybe she's an 'inside' goat now....
Just sayin.

She looks like she has grown about 2 inches of horn since her accident.

Yes, I imagine she will be most unhappy when she goes back outside.

Very cute!

You know you can make their horns less sharp and ouchy by getting your horse hoof rasp and running it over the points so that they are rounded off.
A wee tip from someone who knows what it feels like to be stabbed in the chest by many baby goats!

I've now sold off all my goats apart from the 3 favourite pet ones we are keeping, and it should help to reduce my time away from the horses quite dramatically.

I put just under 60 sheep through the yards on Monday doing basically the same stuff I'd done with the goats a couple of weeks ago [trimming feet, drenching and checking for flystrike etc] and it took me less than half the time it took me to do just 15 goats. And I didn't get injured or tweak my back while doing it, the sheep just lie back and think of England while you trim their tootsies..
