barefoot transition woes

Postby blob » Fri Apr 22, 2022 1:12 am

I pulled MM's shoes a little over a week ago. She is sound and seems comfortable but the top layer of her hoof is chipping off where the nail holes were. Is there something I can or should do to manage this this?

That’s normal. It will take a while for the nail holes to grow out but then she should be back to “normal”. As far as management, maybe just file or rasp a little where the chips are.

Ditto what Demi says. It should be purely cosmetic and will grow out with time.

Norsey had shoes on for, well 5 minutes... and yep the farrier said just rasp off the little cracks that start happening as the nail holes grow down.
