Ground chicory

Postby LindaJ » Sun Apr 10, 2016 1:45 am

Has anyone tried brewed ground chicory? I'm wanting to cut caffeine out some more and really love iced coffee. I happened to stumble upon this and am thinking of ordering some through Amazon.

We drank it in South Africa, it's quite popular there, it is coffee like but not the same, if you know what I mean.

That's what I'm reading about it. I ordered a small container of it off amazon and should get it mid-week. Can't wait to try it.

let me know what you think of it, as i said, we used to drink it all the time, lots of the coffee was also a coffee chicory blend, South Africa was under a trade embargo at the time and chicory was grown locally, but coffee had to be imported and was harder to come by

South African here. We've got a few brands that are half chicory, half coffee. I really struggle to drink it, it just doesn't have that strong tobacco flavour I crave in my coffee :D

it does not taste like coffee but you can become completely used to the taste, and enjoy it, if you do not keep comparing it with coffee

How much chicory to 1 cup of water do you recommend Chisamba?

I use one heaping teaspoon per cup but I drink my coffee that way too. I don't like my Brew too strong
I particularly like my chicory with scalded milk.

You make the Chicory double strength in other words two heaping teaspoons of chicory per cup of water. Then you make a cup of light cream or milk or 2% if you're one of those and you bring it to pre boil. Then you whip the milk. Then you add your chicory into your milk and sweeten to taste.
