Favorite cookie recipe?

Postby Quelah » Sun Apr 16, 2017 9:31 pm

I'm in need of a new cookie recipe. I've got tried and true oatmeal raisin/chocolate chip down pat. Looking for a good recipe that is not chocolate (because unlike me, not everyone loves chocolate). Thanks for any suggestions!

Do you have Joy of Cooking? There a kickass ginger snap recipe in it.

These salted peanut butter cookies are so good, and the ingredient list will surprise you.

I know you said no chocolate, but these are as addictive as crack or what I assume crack to be ;)

And here is a to die for gingersnap recipe:

Melt 1 1/2 sticks butter.
Stir in 2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup dark molasses, and 1 egg.

In a separate bowl, mix together
2 cups flour
1 t cinnamon
1 t ginger
1/2 t clover
3/4 t salt
2 t baking soda

Add dry ingredients into wet, 1/4 at a time and mix.

Chill dough at least 1 hour

Scoop out tablespoon size balls and roll into ball shapes and then roll in white sugar.

Place on baking sheet and bake 8-9 minutes at 375 F

Dh has a killer oatmeal crispy cookie with almond and a little orange zest if your are interested. He often makes them with rice flour for gluten free and they are even crisper.

Well, I only make good cookies :) and I have quite a few recipes. I have a Snickerdoodle which is wonderful, butter, Tutti-Fruitti, no egg peanut butter, sugar cookies I cut with horsey cookie cutters. It just depends what you are thinking of.

I've made these countless times and they are outrageously good. Crispy outside, chewy inside, perfect crackle on top (which isn't apparent in all of the user pics).

This is one of my absolute favorites. Got it from a friend who used to have a deli. What I can't remember is baking temp and time - somewhere between 300 and 350 - til they are done like you like them (chewy or crispy) (I'd probably go with 325)

Jane's Cinnamon Cookies
Cream:
1C white sugar
1C brown sugar
1C butter

Add: 2 eggs
2 t. Vanilla

Whisk together and add (to above):
2 1/2 C flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. Baking powder
2 t. Salt
1 T cinnamon

Stir in 3 C grapenut flakes cereal. (Not the original grape nuts, but the flakes)

She made them into balls with an ice cream scoop and chilled them, then flattened them on the trays.

I am one of those not so into chocolate type cookies people. My 3 favorites are old fashioned sugar cookies, snickerdoodles, and lemon-basil cookies. I'm sorry I don't have a recipe as I don't have a standby, I just find something online to try whenever I want to make cookies.

This Southern Living recipe looks about right for the lemon-basil cookies though. http://www.southernliving.com/food/holi ... es-recipes

I cannot pass by a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. Not really chocolate, so I think that qualifies. There is a good peanut butter cookie recipe on allrecipes.com (whichever one has the highest/most ratings).
Keep calm and canter on.

I love cardamom shortbread which are particularly fun if you have cookie stamps.

1 cup salted butter, room temperature
½ cup dark brown sugar, packed
½ teaspoon ground cardamom
2¼ cups all purpose flour
cooking spray
cookies stamps
and white sugar and cardamom mixed, about 1/4 cup to 1/2 tsp ground cardamom.

you make the dough, then roll the cookies in balls, put the balls on parchment paper. then you spray or butter the stamp, press it in the sugar mix, and then press the stamp on the cookies to flatten them.

bake at about 350 for ten to twelve minutes, depending on your altitude. I usually do more than one batch and add them to my cookie gifts during the holiday season, they are the ones i get asked for recipe most often.

These sound delicious. If I can dig out the time, I'm going to try and make them this weekend. Thanks!

I made these chai latte cookies for a cookie exchange and they were very well met.
