Has anyone seen the Welsh D stallion Pennal the Great. And do you have an opinion :)

Yes and if you want a really solid opinion, talk to Lisa Brezina, Claudia Novak or Tamara Howard (not all have seen him but they can tell you like it is).

Do you not like him. I'm not in the US or the UK. Being new to Cobs I really have no idea.

Oh, I forgot to mention Amy Riley. She too would be a good one to consult. I do like him; but, the others have either seen him in person or seriously looked at him to cross on theirs. One has frozen of his and sells it in the US. None of them post here as far as I know but one use to post on UDBB.

Thanks. I hope to be having a foal by him next year. Hopefully it will be under 148cm and eligible for pony dressage, if it goes over that is fine too. I was just wondering if he was throwing good temperaments and what people thought of him as a pony dressage sire. I'm really new to this as I have never owned a pony of any type before, let alone a Welsh. Now I a going to have two. I am excited at the possibility of riding a pony. Probably insane thinking of riding a baby at my age. Hence the concern about temperament.

I have had very good luck with specific bloodlines regarding temperament. There are those I avoid. How is your mare bred?

I think Pennal the Great is a good choice to put on these bloodlines. I do have to say, though, that I'm not a huge fan of the Nebo bloodlines for a couple of reasons (and I have one in my barn plus have owned others) though I do like some specific individuals.

Well that's lucky because his was the only frozen available. I liked that he is actually ridden and goes out. All I'm hoping for is a steady stocky mount. Good movement would be a big bonus. Temperament is the biggest priority.

I personally think he can deliver on all of those but you have to consider the mare too. I don't breed what I won't ride or more to the point don't enjoy riding. That goes for both the stallion and the mare. I have gelded one gorgeous Nebo bred (heavy focus on the Nebo lines) at the age of 5 because I did not want to pass on his disposition despite having several requests including one as far as Australia for semen. He has the looks, the movement and is sweet but trainability and rideability just wasn't where I felt/feel it should be especially for resale (and there's only so many I can ride at one time). There are also specific health issues that crop up in the Nebo line too.............now this isn't well known in the US. If you're interested in learning more, please PM me to discuss.

Sounds like you have increased your chances for getting what you want. Looking forward to seeing pictures of mare and foal when it arrives.

I will try to get some video of him soon. I only have a small amount taken with my phone when he was a week old. He is only just starting to trot but still doesn’t do it much, he canters everywhere :) I was told this is not a bad thing in a Cob as not all of them have a naturally clear three beat pace with elevation. So far he does:)
