Not A Sprain, LYME!

After being three-legged lame on his right front, 36 hours later my dog was lame on his left, and his right seemed fine. Could NOT determine any particular area of pain, he was just mopey and sore. Trip to the vet this AM and a blood draw and he has Lyme disease.
That's actually good news compared to the visions of bone cancer that were building in my brain. Antibiotics and 200mg of aspirin three times a day for his 50# weight and he should be fine within a month.

Wow. Good for you. That's an easier solution and at least you know.

My dog had something similar where she suddenly was lame and I was worried about things like that. We finally did a spinal xray and got degenerative spinal disease. There's nothing we can do and it is what it is, but at least we know.

Tarlo, wow, glad you caught it. Are you in the northeast? (it has been a weird warm fall coming into winter)

I'm in NW Michigan Piedmont. When I was a kid there were NEVER ticks around here. Then again, there was not the deer population either, and that has certainly changed as well.
And I'm so sorry Tanga. I hope there are pain meds that help as long as she stays with you.

The lesson learned is, if your dog suddenly acts like they've been hit by a car, get a blood draw.

Well, my bad news of the week is that my older pointer (9 1/2) has a tear in his CCL. He suddenly was lame in a hind limb last night---no unusual antics or screams or anything out of the norm of a super active pointer lifestyle before that. It is not a bad enough tear to mandate surgery, so we are going the PRP and rest rest rest rest route and hoping for a good recovery.

When talking to the vet about this pointer, I felt like I was talking about a high strung thoroughbred: I need enough tranqs to help my boy survive stall/crate rest! Wish us luck.
