Jingles for baby

Postby Sue B » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:11 pm

My dh's niece (his brother's daughter) gave birth 4 mos ago to a wonderful baby boy, her first child, her parents first grandchild. Yesterday, he stopped breathing while at the baby sitter. It took a long time to get his heart beating reliably again, and he is now on a vent at Children's Primary. I have not spoken to anyone since last night, so I do not know his status right now. Regardless, could y'all offer up your jingles and/or prayers for baby Jax, his parents and his grandparents?

Was it SIDS?

There is an organization called First Candle (firstcandle.org) that has some resources and can help them through the grieving process.

My barnowners lost a granddaughter to SIDS.

I am so sorry. This is what strikes fear in every parent's heart. It is not fair and is not right and I cannot imagine what they are going through. There are no words that can comfort for the loss of a child.

Thank you for all the kind words. It just doesn't seem real, you know? Four month old babies aren't supposed to just die like that. And of course there's all the guilt that mom and grandma feel because he was at the sitter's and not with one of them. Not to mention how that poor sitter feels, having watched the whole thing unfold. Too many what if's, too much pain.

At any rate, funeral plans have not yet been made, but I have a dumb question. Most likely, I will have to stay home and run the business so I can't play this by ear...would it be wrong to send the cute stuff bear I bought him for Christmas along with dh when he goes to the funeral?

I am just so sorry for this inexplicable loss. ...

Please don't send the bear. I don't know what these parents are like, but as a parent of a baby who stopped breathing many times, and having gone through the terror and grief and hopelessness of that experience and then palliative care and then coming out the other side, I feel in my heart that would be crushing in this situation. Everybody grieves differently, but I would avoid doing that. If you have photos and memories, maybe a photo album honoring him later, a donation to SIDS research in his name, all those things, but not at the funeral, I would think.

Prayers for you and your family.

If they want a photo album get me their photos and I'll be happy to design it for them, and if they want to purchase through me I'll sell it at cost.

So very sorry for your family, Sue.

Thank you. By come out the other side, I meant our baby survived after all that. I hope that's clear. She is fine now. It was painful in the extreme for close friends who lost a newborn to return to their nursery and empty crib and baby things, and after our own experience I understood that on a very visceral level. Jax's parents will have blankets that still smell like him, toys that have been drooled on. And they will eventually have to decide what to do with those things. I just wouldn't risk adding to their pain by giving them a bear meant for a baby who just died and will never use it.

Like boots, I saw this yesterday but could not comment. I have two little girls myself and i remember the absolute terror of thinking of SIDS and how there was no way for me to protect them because we didn't know what it was we were protecting against in the first place. It's just one of THOSE things.

I'm so very, very sorry for Jax and all who loved him. Life is incredibly unfair at times.
