Bay or Brown?
Bay or Brown?
As I go to fill in a dressage registration form for one of our horses, I realise that though I've always thought of him as bay, he's probably brown....
What say the DDBB?

Dark bay. My mare is even darker and is registered as a dark bay.

agree with everyone above.
Re: Bay or Brown?
Thanks for all the opinions!
I was leaning towards brown after reading this website:
http://colorgenetics.info/equine/pictor ... -and-black
Their description of brown fits in terms of his legs being black above the knee/hock, his light brown/fawn muzzle and flanks, and the 'shadow' of black along his top line.

Nope. Dark Bay. Beautiful!
Re: Bay or Brown?
I think he is brown, but that's often registered as "dark bay or brown."
Re: Bay or Brown?
I was going to say bay, but after reading the info at your link, I would definitely now say brown.
Re: Bay or Brown?
In reference to that article, I'd like to know how they distinguish between bay+sooty+pangare on the one hand and brown on the other.

I would xheck with your registry. Many do not differentiate but if they do they may have their own definition.

Re: Bay or Brown?
Bay. My Basco is brown, and in contrary to that webpage, most all brown horses I know have brown "bay" markings, not truly black, and many of them have had genetic testing for brown.
